|Celebrate the life of George|
Welcome to this website which we have set up to honor my husband George L Wong. Yes, I said we as it would not have happened without the input of my daughters Leah & Rachelle. My husband had a long & full life which he lived with gusto. He travelled the world and had some awesome experiences along the way. I worked with him for decades in his office where he treated, helped & performed surgery on many patients. It was well known that he had a following of patients, his very own fan club. He was respected and honored for his medical expertise many times.
His most important accomplishment however, was having his 6 children and knowing that they completed University. All of them growing up to become good citizens, husbands, wives and parents making him a Grandfather; filled with pride.
He so loved his sons and daughters & their spouses, Kenn Looten & Fran Zinger, Larry Wong & Ann Wong, David Wong & Ann Wong, Robert Wong & Peggy Wong, Leah Salazar & Daniel Salazar and Rachelle Thompson & Randy Thompson.
As George's health failed he was in an assited living facility here in AZ. He was in a home cared for by Gina & Dan Angel. Yes, they were his angels. It is very quiet & empty without him. Keep him in your prayers & all of us as well. Thank you for your love & concern.
As George requested there will be no formal memorial service. In lieu of flowers, we are accepting donations in our grandson Kai's memorial fund as George wanted. The donation site is http://teamhistio.kintera.org/2013finish4kai.
Please join us by posting memories, pictures, and stories about George.
A Husband, Brother, Doctor, Pilot, Business Man, Father of 6, Grandfather of 14 & Friend of many... Although his accomplishments began with being the first Chinese-Canadian to graduate medicine from the University of Alberta in retrospect his greatest impact was his influence with family & friends. Those who knew George know his love for Chinese food and all things Chinese. You never left his presence hungry. His culinary skills in wonton folding, stir-fry & egg roll wrapping were shared with many. He had a way with words & coined many phrases. "YELLO!" "You can fix anything with Duct-Tape or Crazy Glue." He made money fall from trees & magically left coins anywhere he sat. His favorite color was RED. He had an affinity for large Lincolns. His love of travel brought him from Russia to China to Australia & all across the US & Canada. George could sleep anywhere & in any position. He enjoyed extremely HOT baths & never took the elevator in the hospital. On an any given day, George would leave for "just a minute", several hours later just as dinner was being served he would arrive. In his eyes, he was the master fix-it man. On his 90th birthday, he was truely surprised by all his family. His summers in Grand Bend became a delight after retirement. He enjoyed spoiling his granddaughters with ice cream for breakfast and many walks downtown. Thousands of miles were spent on road trips with his eyes shut, especially when taking the "senic route".
"Seems like only yesterday you were still with us. We lite a candle at church on Christmas Eve in your memory George. The kids like playing with fire in church no. less. Your imprint on all our lives is forever. Keon barely knew you but has so many of your mannerisms Yes, forever missed and always in our prayers. Love Mary"
"Time passes as memories endure. Often think of things in the context of " if Dad were here ... or wouldn't dad and mom be so proud (of young Taylor and Ryan) ....remember when ( we flew to Lucknow ) , dad would have liked ( this car ) " . As a number of our friends parents are passing, reminds me more of what is embodied in "family" . Good times ,fun times, character developing times, lessons learned, rough times , thoughtful times...... all cherished times Remembering the good times , remembering to pass on parts of your legacy . Thoughts this Day ... son David"
"As we observe George and Mary's family grow and thrive in happiness, we give thanks for having them in our lives. A remarkable testimony to Mary and George as loving nourishing parents. We are blessed.

"From Margaret Rose and Tom Verenka (Calgary)
Dear Kenn, Larry, David, Robbie, Leah, Rachelle:
Words are so inadequate to express my sorrow in your father’s passing. He was a good man.George showed great compassion and understanding with everyone he met. He was a man who could relate to all generations and took joy in people he met along life’s journey. He was a role-model and inspiration to others."
"From: Henry and Aleida Hendriks
Sorry for your loss, and i look forward to seeing you thins summer."
"George always delighted in our happiness when we were all gathered together, even though he would often have a little nap. There was nothing better than gathering for Chinese food, and he would usually end up in the kitchen of the Hoo Hoo or Chopstick house to make sure it was the best. Mum would serve it up and there were smiles and stories shared. We will miss your love and kindness."
"Deepest sympathy to you and family at this time. I never met him but knowing you I know he must have been a marvelous man. All the best to you and your family.
"My deepest sympathy to Mary, Leah, Rachelle, and all his family members. My own life was enriched by George. I am grateful to have known him. I extend my love and affection to you during this very difficult time. My thoughts and prayers are with you. George will forever live on in the loving kindness of his family."
"Dear Mary and Family, George was a remarkable man and father. A self-made man, he pursued a full education and eventual graduation from medical school. A hignly regarded ENT surgeon, he helped Maman;"He made the buzzing go away in my ear."! Your Dad, husband and Gung Gung was very proud of you."
"Hugs of sympathy to Mary, Leah & Daniel, Jazzy & Teya, Rachelle & Randy, Jade & Keon. My fondest memory of George shows how he loved to share his Chinese heritage - and how persuasive he could be. He took this even to the point of convincing me to eat chicken feet with him in Chinatown, Toronto! He & Anne, our Chinese granddaughter, shared a special bond which will be deeply missed."
