Mrs. Nelms was born on October 13, 1929 in Heard County, Georgia, the daughter of the late, Laura Mae Walston Wilson Nelms, and John Parker Wilson. She married the love of her life, William Douglas “Jet” Nelms at a very early age and together they had one child, Jackie. They were long time members of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church. In 1952 she and Jet opened the Nelms Grocery Store in the Mount Pleasant community of Heard County. The store was a popular spot due to the personalities of both of its owners. Around Christmas it was especially crowded due to the fact that the couple somehow managed to sneak in a good supply of fireworks, and novelties for the children. In their later years she also assisted in Mr. Jet’s cattle business. Mrs. Edith loved reading Romance Novels, and listening to county western music. She will long be remembered for her spunky and friendly personality.
