Obituary

November 4, 2014

Edward Churnside, 65, passed away on Wednesday, October 22, 2014.  A memorial service will be held at Christ Church, Pompton Lakes, NJ, on Saturday, November 8, 2014, at 12 PM, with a visiting at 11 AM.

Born in South Shields, England, Ed never lost his Geordie accent. He was brilliant, charming, funny, and a born storyteller, who loved to make people laugh. Although he earned Masters Degrees in both chemistry and computer science from Manchester University, UK, he was proud of being at home in any company, including as "just one of the lads." He also had an incredibly good heart and was among the first to offer friends and family help with anything from fixing their computers to offering sound advice on personal problems to unfolding tables for a church event.

Ed grew up in South Shields, raised by his grandmother Harriet Jane Burns, his mother Ethel Churnside Errington, his father Edward Churnside, his uncle John Burns, and his stepfather Terry Errington. He came to the U.S. in the 1970s and became a U.S. citizen in response to 9/11. He realized he wanted to be officially a part of this country. Yet several times weekly he called his adored Aunt Jennie, (now in her nineties), in England to chat and do crosswords together.

Ed lived in Montclair, NJ, prior to moving to Riverdale, NJ, over twenty years ago. He was a retired computer programmer, software designer, and senior manager for ADP. He was the husband of the late Kathleen Nolan and is survived by his aunt Jennie Sharp; his sister Lorraine Stobbs and her husband Wilf; his sister Rachel Churnside; his brothers-in-law John Nolan, James Nolan and his wife Gayle; his nephews Lawrence Stobbs and Colton Clark; his nieces Natasha and Leann Stobbs, and Cody Clark; his late wife's nephews Terrence Nolan and his wife Judy and Gary Nolan and his wife Courtney; his late wife's niece Alison Nolan; his cousin Dorothy Jennings; his "honorary brother" Ed Griffiths and his wife Jane; and his beloved companion Francine Russo.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the New Jersey House Rabbit Society would be appreciated. New Jersey House Rabbit Society: P.O. Box 6430, Monroe Township, NJ, 08831-6430.
