The Love of A Brother
My Tribute To The Pate and McGill Family
Dr. John Jackson,Pastor
It is with regrets that I write because I am not able to be there with all of you today. Just know that I am here praying for you
to make it through today and the days to come. My brother had asked me to say words over him whenever he passed, so
I'm trying to honor his wish, even though I'm not there. I
asked Hazel to present these words for me as I know she can.
I have known this family over forty years and I've been with
you through many joys and sorrows.I know how you feel today.
because I feel that way too. I hurt today because Edward was
my friend, a true friend. You don't find many of those. We
have vacationrd together, Rode together all around town, broke bread together, cried together, laughed together and how we
did laugh and we prayed together. I knew he was having a few health problems but it still came as a shock to hear of his
passing. Edward loved the Lord and loved and cherished his
family. He loved people. Pate and I had a bond that was
tight. There was nothing, absolutely nothing that I know he
wouldn't do for me or anyone, if he could. I loved Pate
and I always will. He even gave me my wife's hand
in marriage, who has the same heart that he does. I am so
sorry that I'm not there for you all. Puddin, you were a
Great wife and you treated Pate like your big teddy bear.
If anyone ever loved their husband,it was you. You have no regrets other than you will miss him. I know you loved him with all your heart. All of you be blessed today and know that I am praying for you. May you all find comfort in Psalms 116;15 which reads: Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of the saints.Edward Pate was one of God's saints.
I Love You All
Ode for My Sister
Ode for My Sister
The pain you felt cannot be expressed
The hurt in your heart cannot be repressed
Years of ups, downs, good tmes and bad
Have a special for they are a part of the past
New memories await as lifealways goes on
It makes you wonder what the fates have in store
Your love never wavered for your vow was your trust
You touched so many lives in your outward thrust
Uniquely Pate and Puddin just seemed to intertwine
Bonded together your love really stood the test of time

Eulogy of Louise Mc Gill
My Mother's Eulogy
Five Star Speech
By Edward Pate on March 30,1978
First Calvary Church - March 30, 19i78
At a time like this mere words are empty and shallow, but suffering of having lost
a loved one is universal. This suffering is a deep anguish which sooner or later cuts into every human heart, strong and weak. For death is the inevitable goal for us all and there maybe some small degree of consolation in the thought, that death is but a narrow starlit strip between the championship of yesterday and the Happy Reunion of tomorrow.
Mother, being the kind and sensitive person that she was and a strong beliver in the Master, wouldn't want any of us to feel burdened down with sadness and
in God I know she would want us to feel and exhibit that spirit of rejoicefulness that so often quoted; "We must rejoice when God's children leave this world, for they have gone home to live with Him".
Louise McGill, my mother, was an incredible, unique, wonderful woman. Her life was her children.
At the age of thirty-two in October of 1949, she too lost someone very dear to this
family, her husband Edward H. McGill. At that time her youngest child was ten months old, her oldest child was twelve years of age. I am proud to say that my mother accepted the challenge and task of rearing her children,as a single parent.
With her strong faith in God, her belief in her mother, she began to demonstrate
what to me constitutes the essence of true womanhood. She was always a lady,
a devoted mother to us and any one else who chose to adopt her old and young alike. She was the complete neighbor, the perfect friend and a faithful church
member
If you need yo confide in someone she was there. If you needed understanding,
she could understand. Our house has always been the meeting place of the
neighborhood because everyone seemed to find comfort and joy by being in her
presence.
To my sisters and brothers I say, wipe away those tears of sorrow for I too, feel
those pains of hurt. Let us dedicate our lives to those basic principles that she
believed and taught so that our children may know and gain from our lives all
that we have know and gained from the life she gave us.Love, Understanding,
Justice,Respect, Dignity, Pride, Truth, Determination, and finally during the
last three months she taught us to accept death, Throughout her life with us,she
taught us by example how to be responsible and loving parents. She taught us that a family must love one another and stick together.
She loved all her children, all her grandchildren, all of her sons and
daughter in-laws.
A Tribute to Brother Edward C. Pate
By Sister Regina Richardson, Baptismal Ministry Director
Greetings,
Grace and Peace, In the Name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Werd the Baptismal Ministry of the Apostolic Church of God would like to recognize and pay
tribute to the life of the unwavering, immovable Brother Edward Pate. What is the measure
of of a faithful servant?
Brother Pate's unshakeable faithfulnesswas impossible to subdue or defeat. We salute this
Warrior of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. His life and the works he has done speak for him.
Whereas Brother Pate suffered some ill- health, he continued on to do the work of the Lord
in the assignments the Lord gave him the opportunities and privilege to do. Whereas, many
will speak of how he was a mighty supporter of education and whereas others will speak of
his community work in the city of Chicago and Evanston, We will speak to the fact that
Brother Pate was a gentle giant. He was a soft, well spoken man who was full of the Holy Spirit
and faithful to that which God had given him to do. Brother Pate was not only a leader but a
servant. He would come to our trainings and meetings straight from the hospital. He pressed
his way many times giving no weak excuses that he couldn't fill his obligation. He was serious
about the Lord's business and real in his love for God. Not only did he fulfill his civic and
public obligations, he was a happy husband and father. Wheras, when his precious wife ,
hospitalized, he grieved and spoke of how she had never been sick before. He was so
joyful when she came home and regained her health . He enjoined his family. He often spoke
of Paul and Paula and all of his family. Brother Pate and Sister Pate would travel the
highways and bi-ways picking up grand children and seeing about family across the
country. Therefore, let it be resolved that the Baptismal Minstry will keep this family in our
thoughts and prayers.Whereas,Brother Pate was a living template of how to be a man.
He did not brag or lift himself up, but rather lived the life of a Godly man. He showed that
being saved was not a drag.
Can I say Brother Pate was a man of elegance? He was well-dressed at all times.
He was early for all events again, showing leadership by example. Therefore let it
be resolved tha we, the Baptismal Ministry of the Apostolic Church of God will
always love remember Brother Edward Pate as the measure of a faithful servant
and will keep his family in our hearts and prayers.
Respectfully submitted this 30 May 2015
