Effie Mae Gregory
 
Effie Mae Gregory was born on October 19, 1912 to Thomas Jefferson and Grace Leona Hunter in Hammond, Oklahoma.  Effie departed this life on Friday July 6th, 2012 at the age of 99 years, 8 months and 18 days young.
 
Effie had been a Bristow area resident since 1965. She previously lived in Cogar Ok and Welty Ok. before moving to Bristow.  She worked in the cotton fields with her father as a child helping plant the crops and later worked in a cannery in Alma, Arkansas. She also cooked for the little school in Welty, Ok. where her children attended.
 
On July 25th, 1933 Effie Mae Hunter and Luther Louis Gregory were united in marriage.  They enjoyed 64 years together until Luther passed away on May 7th, 1998.
 
Effie was an active member of the Bristow Gospel Tabernacle.  She enjoyed crocheting, sewing, playing the organ, the piano and the guitar. She often accompanied her husband, Luther when he played the fiddle. She really loved telling stories to anyone who wished to listen.
 
Effie is survived by five children; Verneal Maze, Don Gregory and his wife Maxine, LaWanna Haffner and her husband Jim all of Bristow, Virginia Harris and her husband Ernie of Spiro, Oklahoma and Jerald Gregory and his wife Anna of Neosho, Missouri.  Sixteen grandchildren, forty eight great grandchildren and fifty nine great great grandchildren.  Effie was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Gracie Hunter, her husband Luther Louis Gregory, one daughter, Barbara Joyce Marlowe, three sisters and two brothers, Addie Bell Gregory, Nadine Elizabeth Favors, Nola Hindman, Luther Hunter and Warren Hunter who died in WWII.  Effie was also preceded in death by six brothers and sisters who passed shortly after birth.  One grandson, Jason Robert Maze, one great granddaughter, Lynda Thompson and one great great grandson, Adam Lee Wynn.
