Obituary

August 29, 2015

Elias Ndi Bell was born in Banjah , North West Division on October 26, 1957 to Simon   Bell Ndingsa and Susanah Mah , the sixth of a family of 9 children on his Mother's side.

Elias Bell attended CBC Nkwen  primary school, Bamenda followed by CPC Bali college after which he taught in Comprehensive College Limbe. He then proceeded to travel to Oregon in the US in 1981. He obtained a Bachelors in Humanities from the University of Oregon and subsequently Oregon State University where he graduated with a Masters in Engineering.

Elias Bell then worked as a contractor for the government as well as private businesses. If your heating system broke down in the middle of the night he would do his utmost to repair the system and keep your family warm and he would accept whatever payment you had . He volunteered to help at flooded homes. His humility, simplicity and detachment from material things often overshadowed his exceptional technical skills in the areas of fencing, roofing, painting, plumbing etc.

He was known to most as " Pa Bell" or fondly called Ndefru/Moyo/Ni Elias or Mr Bell. He was known to the Los Angeles crowd as the "Magician" . He was an influential member of the Cameroonian society in Portland, Oregon. He had a spectacular personality : selfless, humble, peaceful, trustworthy, generous, a man of great integrity and most of all an entertainer - he was funny.

In money matters he was generous and reached out to those in need in his own unique way.

He loved nature. Those that were close to him would have ventured on one of his hunting / fishing expeditions! He also loved music - oh those early morning wake up calls with his xylophone! He is well known for calling to check on family members to ridicule them and force them to smile all in one breath.  He was quite the debater - there was no debate Pa Bell could not win.

He was a loving, caring and supportive father to his children. He taught us the important values of life  and ensured that we succeeded as adults.

He was diagnosed 3 years ago with lymphoma of the sinuses and was positive throughout his long battle with cancer .

He has left behind a wonderful legacy. 2 children : Jessie Bell and Elizabeth Bell ; 3 grandchildren Quinton, Aaliyah and Emily ; a huge family support network 5 siblings : Joe Bell, Christie Ngwa, Margaret Andoseh, Justine Ngwa and Mercy Awasom ; his many cousins, in-laws,aunts,uncles and friends who all provided support and stood by him.

Pa Bell you will be dearly missed. We love you very much , we rest assured that your humble soul is now resting in perfect peace !
