The Legacy of Elizabeth Gresham

November 3, 2012

Mary Elizabeth Baylor-Gresham was born April 23, 1924 to Herman & Bertie Baylor.  She was known as "Elizabeth by everyone.  Elizabeth grew up in Port Royal Virginia. She attend a one room school. During her early years Elizabeth met Clarence Gresham of Urbanna Virginia.  They married  July 19, 1941. In this union they had  7 children.  Johnny, (decease very young) Clarence Jr, Ada  (passed April 1993), Roger, Bertha, Frances, and Samuel  better known as Sammy.

Clarence Gresham Sr passed Dec 8, 1983.

Elizabeth was a active member of The Lord Jesus Christ of The Apostolic Faith for over 50 years under the guidance of Bishop S. McDowell Shelton  and predecessor Bishop Omega Shelton.  Elizabeth love The Lord and made sure we all knew who God is and weekly attendance to church was a must in the Gresham household.   After all  of us grew up, Elizabeth was a Loving Grandmother to all her Grands but she hands on raised Pierre- her oldest Grandson.... The Son of Frances Baker. Pierre can testify going to church every Sunday and week nights was a priority  no if ands or buts.  I hear him speak eloquently about being raised by his "Granny" as he called her. And new his Granny was a tough cookie and would always  be so gentle in other ways. It's so  ironic Pierre have so many traits of both of his Grand Parents.  If you knew our Father "Fats" as most called him.. see the resemblance of Dad through Pierre but yet he a replica of his Granny.   Now Danny was Elizabeth other Nephew and as she would say he was her stand by. Danny Boy as she called him would cook her meals regularly when she was bed ridden. I remember once she said Danny his her personal Chef and he made sure she was comfortable and she praised him to others about her Danny Boy. She said never a day go by and if he was home he would stop by and check on her. But she hated when he purchase his bicycle as Mom called but it was a 3 wheeler (smile) She would fuss every time she saw him driving that bicycle over the ditched near her residence  and that would make her  be yelling and the funny thing about it..he couldn't hear her but she was raising all kind of cane (her terminology)  But all in all she loved every last one of the kids. Even my daughter Salieka. She help me raise her when she reside with us due to some medical problem Mom had and those two was inseparable. I remember Salieka was in around 10 or 12 Mom loved "Driving Miss Daisy" she and Salieka would both be in Mom's hospital bed looking at D. Miss Daisy when I  came home from work. Both eating oatmeal as Mom called her snack.. Salieka concocted the oatmeal in the microwave she used one package of instant cooked and after she would pour half of the other packet over the cooked oatmeal... and those two look like to hibernating polar bears.. eating and the both repeating verse of the movie. That was to cute but Salieka had come to be her right hand when she became ill. They were so good to each other and I know that is forever etched in their hearts
