Elizabeth, 93, passed away peacefully after a brief illness on July 27, 2016 at Hock Family Pavilion in Durham. She was born July 30, 1922 in Durham, N.C. to the late Otis Hunter and Mary Elizabeth (Lizzie) Rogers. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Juanita Rogers Glover and Mary Ann Knight, and a brother Hunter Rogers. Elizabeth was married for over 40 years to the late Vernon Pruitt.
While living in Durham she was a long-time member of Angier Avenue Baptist Church. She moved to Butner eleven years ago and transferred her church membership to the Butner Community United Church where she was a member of the choir until her illness.
After graduating from Durham High School she attended the Twaddell School of Voice. For many years she was a guest soloist for numerous churches in Durham. Her singing, fishing, her family, and her many friends over the years were her great joy. Her nieces and nephews called her “Buba”.
Elizabeth worked in the office at the American Tobacco Company for over 40 years before retiring.
She is survived by her nieces, Carolyn Glover Kincaid of Butner, and Patricia Knight Zimmerman of Georgia, Nephew, James (Jimmie) Glover (Julianna) of Durham; Great nieces, Lynn Kincaid of Butner, Jennifer Glover Johnson (Steve) of Mooresville and Jessica Glover Brown (Jeff) of Durham, Great nephews, Mike Kincaid of Butner, Richard and Phillip Knight of Georgia, Great-Grand Nieces, Ashley Kincaid, Virginia and Zoe’ Hodgin of Butner, Great-Grand nephews, Bryce Johnson, Aaron and Ryan Brown.
A memorial and celebration of life will be conducted at the Butner Community United Methodist Church on August 14, 2016 at 3:00 P.M. Visitation with family and friends will follow the service. Burial will be private.
