Elliott - The Early Years

October 20, 2016

Elliott was born on October 28, 1982, in Memphis, Tennessee. He was in a rush to come into the world and was delivered only 20 minutes after his parents got to the hospital. He was the best baby they could ask for. He rarely cried, took naps every day like clockwork, and always went to sleep at bedtime. His older sister Candy was 11 at that time.

At the age of one, his favorite plaything was an empty cup and a spoon. He would stir his imaginary liquid for hours. Six months later he discovered matchbox cars and wouldn't go to bed unless they were lined up next to him.

He hit the Terrible Two's really at 18 months of age, one month after his sister Emily was born. He spent the next year trying to kill her, so it took a lot of effort to keep her alive. By that age, he became a button pusher. If he saw any buttons he had to push them (stereo, microwave, etc). If anyone were holding him and wouldn't allow him to push a button, he turned into "rubber baby": he let go, relaxed his body, and fell to the floor, against which he would beat his forehead. He maintained a blue knot on his forehead for 2 years, until he passed through the Horrible Threes. He could also not walk past "dirt" without sitting down and playing with it. He was filthy dirty and looked like a homeless child until he was 5.

When he was three and a half, his sister Melody was born. Two months later in June of 1986, the family moved from Memphis to Atlanta, and Elliott turned Four that October. Shortly after he met his first best friend Joe Arp whose mother Wendy is close to the family to this day. Right after Joe and Elliott met we went on a camping trip. They walked around the campground with their arms around each other. They were very close for years to come.

When Elliott started school, made mostly Bs and Cs because he never did homework yet he aced every test. In high school, he spent much of his time hanging out with his best friends Joe, Devon, the two Tonys and Tyler, taking care not to get into too much trouble. One year, his dad bought him a drum set, and to the vexation of the neighbors, he practiced to achieve impeccable rhythm. And of course, he was in a high school rock band. Suffice it to say he was popular with the girls, especially after getting his red convertible.

Even though he didn't study or do homework, every teacher loved having Elliott in their classes, because he was always respectful, mindful, and a joy to be around. He was loved by every teacher (which is rare with teenage boys).

When Elliott was 14 and his mother was working at HP, he approached her one day and asked, "Mom, will you teach me DOS?" So she did, and that began his brilliant path into the world of technology. It was during his high school years that he met Brandi, the women he loved until the day he died.

During his sophomore year of college, which his mom forced him to attend, his sister Candy started working at Ball Corporation and got him a summer internship as a lab assistant. He was basically sweeping floors, answering phones, and a little bit of everything. He quickly showed the lab employees how much more valuable he was, and soon enough he caught the attention of upper management. When he was 20, Ball closed their Atlanta facility and they offered him a job to relocate to Denver. When he showed his family the offer and asked if he should go, his mom said ABSOLUTELY. It was an offer many college graduates would have been lucky to get.

So, when he was barely 21, he moved to Denver, with his dad's best wishes and his mom's worried heart that he would be so far away with no friends or family. They were happy to hear when he met Scott Ulibarri at Ball who became Elliott's best friend. Through Scott, Elliott met Travis and Justin, and the four of them were inseparable and also loved each other as family.
