Genesis
Whenever I hear Phil Collins, Steely Dan, or Hall and Oates, I always remember my big brother. Those were his favorites - I remember he really started to embrace 80s pop rock in his late teens, and although I found the music questionable at the time, now, I really enjoy listening to these bands. I’ve come to appreciate their artistic talent, and being able to remember Elliott through the sound.
Looking forward to next year when I can share another small memory.
Poem for Elliott
I have no words, no right, no light
No circumstance, no feeling
For revealing the strife, the plight
Which might underwrite
The strength, the length
To which I may cite
The heights of my brother
From my mother, on whom
I write tonight
The way his life
Sought the peace and resolve
To each, his care to us
Despite his needs
From his ease of being
And a life of seeing
Through these obstacles
Though we all face them
His intelligence could erase them
And unlike hard drive data,
He has no recovery
But without subtlety
his spirit still lingers
And we shall not hinder
To discover
His Ever-impacting kindness
His humor his warmth his acceptance
We love him dearly and
As earnestly as we may
Express our dismay at his passing
Though it will be lasting
Let's be brief with our grief
Because his spirit his vast and will last eternally, so I can only
Express my thanks for his protection and presence
may you live on, in a sense,
In our collective heart, Elliott
