Erik was such a joy
I want to let you know how very sorry I am for your loss. I remember laughing all through middle and high school with Erik. He always knew what to say to lighten the mood or to bring a smile to someone's face. He was one of my favorite people back then and helped me sort out many problems. I was so blessed to have his friendship. I hope that you find comfort in knowing that others remember what a kind, caring, funny, honorable person he was. One of a kind.
I'm in shock and disbelief to have learned the news that such a beautiful person has passed. My heart goes out to Kenneth, Erik's daughter and family.
Erik and I met while we were both getting our Masters degree at night, about 2004, for social work. I can be quite the introvert but there was an aura about Erik where you just felt safe, unjudged and comfortable in his presence. it wasn't long before I met his husband to be and we all stayed up one night giggling looking and playing with Kenneth's eclectic collection of puppets and I knew I had found not one, but two authentic, beautiful friends.
I am just so deeply shocked and just want to say what an impact this beautiful soul had on all the those he touched, in his profession where he was an incredible social worker, and just knowing him as a friend and he will be deeply missed. ♡♡♡
My friend Erik
Erik was my friend. He was also a committed clinician who provided excellent psychotherapeutic care to his clients. He was an agent of change and a voice for justice; not only in his professional life, but in his personal life as well. He would not stand for inequality or unfair practice in any capacity and he was not shy about saying so. When he spoke against injustice, he did so in a way that was nearly impossible to argue with because Erik’s compassion was rivaled only by his intelligence - and he had the audacity to be humble about all of this.
Erik had a wonderful sense of humor. He could make the sad things funny in a way that was somehow acceptable but might not be tolerated if attempted by others…and he had the most genuine smile.
Erik could make you laugh, challenge you to think, and make you feel completely supported and he knew when you needed which. He is an inspiration to me & I'm grateful to have known him.
