Ernest (Bob) R. Vargo, age 89, of Franklinville, passed away peacefully in his sleep at home on Saturday, March 7, 2015.

Born in McKeesport, PA on July 25, 1925, to Andy and Elizabeth Vargo, Bob moved to East Orange as a teenager with his family, where he graduated from East Orange High School. At the age of seventeen he joined the Navy where he proudly served all over the world including Germany (where he met his wife, Johanna), as well as Morocco, Iceland, Argentina, and Hawaii, retiring after 20 years as a Chief Petty Officer.

Bob was a sports fan who enjoyed watching and rooting for his Phillies and Eagles. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family. He was a devoted husband and loving father, grandfather and great grandfather who will be dearly missed by his family.

Bob is survived by his wife, Johanna, his children Michael Vargo (Tara), Bob Vargo, Pam Vargo (Jim Morris) and his granddaughters, Kelly Ridgeway (Bob), Catherine Beltran (Josh), and Sarah Meehan (Mark), and his great grandchildren, Luke, Kit, and Becca Ridgeway and Jeremiah Beltran (born March 7, 2015).

The family wishes to thank Holy Redeemer Home Care and Hospice for their kind care and comfort given to Bob in his last illness.

Funeral services are private, but donations can be made in Bob’s memory to Holy Redeemer Hospice at 150 Ninth Avenue, Runnemeade, New Jersey 08078.
