November 26, 1924 - June 9, 2012 Christine Stone (nee Ethel Christine Berry).

With much sadness we announce that our mother, Christine Stone, passed away on June 9, 2012. She was 87 years old. Christine was born on November 26, 1924, and raised in Ottawa South by her parents Ethel and Deans Berry who had immigrated to Canada from Scotland. They had five children, with Chris being the youngest child and the only girl.

Chris had a varied life full of adventure. She served in the Air Force during the war, even managing an overseas posting in Newfoundland. After the war, she received her BA at Queen's University. She subsequently married Jim Stone, also a Queen's graduate, in 1947. They went on to travel the world on a number of postings in the Foreign Service, with all four children in tow. A true citizen of the world, Chris was fluent in French, Italian, Portuguese, and Spanish.

Retiring back in Ottawa, Chris and Jim were involved in a wide variety of activities, including international trade consulting, running an antique store, working with the Schizophrenia Society, spending summers at the cottage, and being active members of Trinity Anglican Church. For many years, they spent a few months each winter in Mexico, writing and sculpting in the artists' colony of San Miguel di Allende. They were avid travelers and an especially memorable trip for Christine was a bible study trip to Jerusalem. Jim passed away twelve years prior to Chris. She missed him very much, and was looking forward to being reunited.

Chris was much loved and will be greatly missed, especially by her children Mary, Kathleen, Robert and Thomas, their spouses Vincent, Richard, and Petra; her grandchildren Victoria, Andrew, Christopher,Erika, and Philip; and her great-grandchildren Zoe, Moira, and Jamie.

The family is indebted to Samia Hamida, who took care of our mother during the last years of her life with great grace and compassion.

A memorial service will be held at Trinity Anglican Church on August 25, 2012 at 10am, followed by lunch in the Canterbury Room. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Trinity Anglican Church, 1230 Bank Street, Ottawa, ON K1S 3Y3; or The Schizophrenia Society of Ontario, 130 Spadina Avenue, Toronto, Ontario, ON M5V 2L4.
