Mrs. Evelyn Newbury Cushman, 79 year old resident of LaGrange, died Saturday, December 31, 2011, in Atlanta.
Mrs. Cushman was born, Wednesday, July 28, 1932, in Lewistown, Montana, the daughter of the late David and Gertrude Housel Newbury. She worked as a secretary at LaGrange High School for 15 years. Mrs. Cushman was a dedicated member and supporter of Curves in LaGrange, a volunteer at Callaway Gardens and was very active working with Meals On Wheels. She was a faithful member of St. Andrew’s Anglican Church in West Point. Mrs. Cushman was known for generous sharing of “Vitamin H”, her hugs, with all that knew her.
Mrs. Cushman was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald “Dick” Cushman and 2 siblings. She is survived by her daughter: Kim Cushman and Kelly Cushman, both of LaGrange, and Susan (Robby) Stripling of Cordele; her son: David Cushman of Auburn, California; 4 grandchildren: Cory and Cody Stripling of Cordele, Hailey Cushman of Auburn, California and Trenton Cushman of LaGrange; 2 sisters: Joyce Silva of Clayton, California and Bobby Sparks of Modesto, California; and several nieces and nephews.
A Requiem Mass will be held for Mrs. Evelyn Newbury Cushman, Wednesday, January 4, 2012 at 11:00 AM EST from St. Andrew’s Anglican Church with The reverend Michael V. Church officiating. The family will greet friends Tuesday, January 3, 2012, from 4:00 PM EST until 6:00 PM EST at McCarthy Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that contributions be made to Nazareth House, 185 Captain’s Cove Drive, Taylorsville, Kentucky, 40071 or to Meals On Wheels, 140 Ragland Street, LaGrange, Georgia, 30240.
