Her Life

Mrs. Henderson was born Friday, July 31, 1925, in Lee County, Alabama, second child of Evelyn Ingram Cherry and Homer Lee Cherry, Sr. She was married to her beloved husband, John W. Henderson, for 72 years. After completing her education at Opelika High School, she spent her life as a dedicated wife, mother and homemaker in West Point, Georgia. She was a wonderful cook and an accomplished seamstress. She loved her home and garden and spent many hours making sure the garden was in perfect order. Mrs. Henderson was an active member of First United Methodist Church of West Point for most of her adult life and served on the Bereavement Committee for several years.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Henderson was preceded in death by her husband, John Will Henderson, her son, John Henderson, Jr. of Roswell and by two brothers, Homer Lee Cherry, Jr. of Opelika, Alabama, and George Walter Cherry of Hampton, Virginia.

Survivors include two daughters and their spouses: Lea Rawlinson (J.M.) of LaGrange and Laura O’Rourke (Bill) of Kennesaw, John, Jr’s widow: Marlene Henderson of Roswell, six grandchildren: Elizabeth Chrane (Rob), Susan White, Devon DeVigne (Paul), Erin Hudson (Keith), Katie O’Rourke and Will O’Rourke and three great-grandchildren: Landon, Ansley and Chase DeVigne, one sister-in-law: Mary Nell Robertson (Gene)of Valley, Alabama, and a brother-in-law: Louis Henderson (Pat) of Jonesboro, Georgia, and numerous nieces and nephews.
