Her Life

A native of Macon, GA., Mrs. Spencer was the daughter of the late John and Eugenia Pitts. Residing in Columbus most of her life, she attended and graduated from the Medical Center School of Nursing. After thirty plus years of dedicated service, she retired as a Registered Nurse from the Medical Center. Even though "retired", she also worked as a Registered Nurse at the Homer D. Cobb Memorial Hospital in Phenix City. A very devout member of Allen Temple African Methodist Episcopal Church, she was a member of the Laymen Ministry, Daughters of Allen, Choir, Stewardess Board and Council of Elders. She also participated in the Neighborhood Food Distribution program. She was a member of the Black Nurses Association of Columbus and Ruth V. Cobb Chapter #105 Order of the Eastern Star, PHA. Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Clifford Spencer, Sr., a granddaughter, Dr. Crystal Lynn Johnson and six siblings, John Pitts Jr, Julia Ratliff, Roberta Rayford, Dequilla Pitts, Alva Lewis and Willie Pitts Turner.

Surviving are one son, Clifford Spencer, Jr; two daughters, Gwendolyn Spencer Johnson and Evelyn Spencer Overstreet; three grandchildren, Audricka Spencer, Sherrod Jubbar Spencer and Dr. Tiffany S. Overstreet; a great grandson, Michael Clifford Spencer; and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends including her devoted caregivers, Verones Holmes and Felecia Rutherford.
