ECHEVERRI -- Fernando Echeverri died June 18, 2008 at 61, after a lengthy illness. He was born in Quito, Ecuador and grew up in Medellin, Colombia. At age 17, he left his home in Medellin, and traveled all around the U.S., some of Central America, and finally settled in Albuquerque, NM. Being a great humanitarian, he was a person who was always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need. He had the great ability to see the beauty or utility in the broken down or wounded. He was a man of many talents and many trades including dental technician, jeweler, exotic instrument maker, and music teacher. He played many instruments well and was involved in many musical projects, including the musical group Ayocuan. He loved teaching music workshops to children and the elderly. He touched many hearts throughout his life and was a very influential individual. He will be greatly missed. He is preceded in death by his father, Antonio Echeverri Villa; mother, Esther Vanegas Sencial; and brother, Carlos Alberto Echeverri. He is survived by his son and daughter, Fernando and Quena Echeverri; grandson Antonio Echeverri. His sisters Marta Nora and Maria Elena Echeverri along with nieces and nephews. A Celebration of his Life and achievements will be [was] held on Saturday, June 28, 2008.
