Francis Eugene “Butch” Asher Jr.
 

Francis Eugene “Butch” Asher Jr., 63, passed away Saturday, June 15, 2013, in Indianapolis. He was a resident of Franklin.

Butch was born Aug. 4, 1949, in Franklin to Francis Eugene and Violet Marie (White) Asher.

He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran. He was the recipient of the Purple Heart Medal, Navy Achievement Medal with combat “V,” National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal with device, Combat Action Ribbon, Vietnam Service Medal with two Rifle Marksman Badges and the RVN Cross of Gallantry with Palm.

He married Sandra K. Hatfield on June 11, 1988, in Franklin; they were married for 25 years.

Butch was a self-employed painter, retiring in 2003.

He enjoyed woodworking, fishing and camping. He loved traveling to Tennessee and spending time with his family at Dale Hollow Lake.

Survivors include his wife, Sandra Asher of Franklin; his mother, Violet Atwood of Franklin; six children, Michael E. (Michelle) Asher of Tennessee, Gregory J. (Heather) Asher, Tabitha J. (Edward) Asher–Smith, Nicholas A. (Heather) Asher and Wilbur F. Hedden Jr., all of Franklin, and Dorothy J. (Jason) Kayse of Kentucky; three sisters, Rebecca Asher of Tennessee, and Dana Smith and Angie (Jeffery) Atwood, both of Franklin; four brothers, David (Judy) Asher, Kerry (Sara) Atwood and Richard (Drienda) Asher, all of Franklin, and Scott (Gina) Atwood of Avon; 18 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and mother-in-law, Patricia A. Hatfield of Franklin.

He was preceded in death by his father, Francis Eugene Asher; father, Wilburn D. Atwood; a brother, Steven L. Atwood; and grandparents, Dorothy F. and Fred A. White.

A funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday at Franklin Memorial Christian Church, 1720 Graham Road, Franklin. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until service time Thursday at the church.
