Gary Edward Shipley, 74 a longtime resident of Franklinton passed away Monday, August 28, 2017 at Hock Family Pavilion in Durham.

A native of Caldwell County, he was the son of the late Robert Franklin Shipley and Gladys Craig Shipley. Gary attended Pleasant Grove Baptist Church and was a retired building contractor.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Friday, September 1, 2017 in the Eakes Funeral Home Chapel by Dr. Marc Tilley. Burial will be in Carolina Memorial Gardens.

Surviving are his wife of fifty-four years, Mildred Smith Shipley of the home, a daughter, Nicole Bass (Chris), a grandson, Dillon Bass, a sister, Brenda Davis (Tom) of Creedmoor and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held Friday, September 1, 2017 from 12:30 – 1:45 P.M. prior to the service at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, P.O. Box 745, Creedmoor, N.C. 27522.

God bless and prayers. I hope you will allow me to add a few comments. I only knew Gary for a year or so and he was so kind to me. I was a new pilot and met him at the airport. He took me under his wing to help teach me and was always encouraging and very giving. It was a joy to take to the air with him.
