Gary and Evelyn Harthcock were giants in the faith to me! I first met them 20 years ago on their first day of service in Cambodia. Of course, their matching shirts, their seniority even then in 1996, their gentle speech, and their eagerness to meet virtually everyone set them apart. I later became one of their “daughters” while in Thailand. They never wasted a moment. They always were working on a new tract or book or project. They lived every day intentionally sharing the love of Christ with those who had not yet heard, all the while mentoring those serving alongside them. There was not an ounce of pride in either of them. They were true servants through and through. I loved hearing all their stories about their life and ministries throughout the world and the “sons and daughters” they had in each country where they had served. Gary and Evelyn always looked forward toward eternity, for with all the love they had for the lost and for family, they loved their Lord Jesus most. I have learned so much from them, and they have prayed so fervently for me. I am forever grateful to the Lord for bringing Gary and Evelyn into my life. I rejoice that they now together behold their precious Savior face to face.

Our first introduction to Brother Gary and Ms. Evelyn was in 2003 when they were celebrating their retirement and yet vowed to not retire until the devil retired. We would later serve in Thailand and have many opportunities to do life with them. Retire, they did not! Inspiring examples of faithfully serving Jesus with fervency until taken to their eteneral home. Our lives are forever richer and changed for their example, encouragement, and love!

I'm sad for the home going of Gary. But I'm glad that he's now with the LORD. He fought a good fight and finished well. He disciple me and many others in Liberia, West Africa. He love God and love people. Hundreds of people came to know the Lord in Liberia through the ministry of Gary and Evelyn Harthcock. I'll miss him but will meet him in glory. Rest in peace, Brother Gary!

Gary was special to Jim (deceased) and me during our time in Chiang Mai. What a joy to be both friends and neighbors at P.T. Place to Gary and Evelyn. Their many kindnesses touched not only our lives and ministry but many persons, believers and "seekers", as they visited us. The very helpful literacy materials have been and continue to be significant tools in both our assignments and personal ministries. What a privilege for us to come to know such godly servants and to observe their humble and gentle way with all persons. Their vision for what could be done by and through HIS willing, committed children is the model for and challenge to each of us. What great rejoicing and excitement heaven is experiencing as Gary and Evelyn are together to continue their love and worship of "The One True God" they shared with so many on their earthly journey. What a legacy! Jude 24-25

Although we have never met Gary & Evelyn, we feel we know them through the book he wrote, "His Eye His Hand". A special missionary who is a friend of theirs and ours gave the book to us in 2006. We have kept in contact with him and have been blessed with the daily devotions he has so faithfully sent to us. A great reunion in Heaven has taken place as he joined his lovely Evelyn. God bless all you friends who have so graciously taken care of him and thank you for keeping us updated. Mac & Mary, Maryville, Tennessee

We will always have fond memories of the Harthcocks!
They served in Mongolia (before we arrived there) but we had that connection.
They took us out for meals when we were in Chiang Mai (the photo I uploaded was of them taken 13 years ago when they took us out for lunch after our son was born.)
Our daughters lived in the Harthcock dorm (named in honor of Mr. Gary and Mrs. Evelyn) the last two years it was open.
And yes, we too remember them saying, they would never stop working until the devil retires.
Now they are together again. With Him.

The Hartcock's were truly wonderful servants of God. They both would come share to our class of students (who travelled to Chiang Mai on mission trips) all of the things they were still doing to share the love of Christ. They made you feel like you were part of their family. They usually invited the whole class to have dinner with them at their favorite outdoor Chiang Mai resturant. Gary would email me from time-to-time words of great encouragement. I taught their ESL materials each year for quite a few years at the annual DFW Metroplex Literacy Council's ESL weekend...usually held at Dallas Baptist University's campus. Many people benefited and started using Easy English in their ESL training classes.

We are sure God will give them matching robes as they loved to dress alike when they served. What a couple! Such a blessing to have known them !

I'm Abraham Kamara from Liberia, but I presently now live in Chicago. In respect of African traditions, I always referred to the Harthcocks as my Mother and Father. I remembered when Mother Evelyn does something that make Father Gary to feel unhappy, she will explained to me how Father Gary is so patient with her. I will dearly miss him. Through their Christlike love, I accepted Christ when I was once a Muslim. In that process, the Harthcock stood with me and encouraged me with scriptural words. They are my role-model and mentor. I'm glad I shared this word with them prior to their home-going to be with the Lord. The Lord really used the Harthcocks to touch many lives around the world of whom I'm one of them. In fact in one of Father Gary books written from Liberia, he wrote a story about me. The title of the story is "Courage To Change." Last year I wished him a Happy Easter and explained the joy it is to drop this mortal body to live with the Lord in an immortal body. As a result after he read my Easter message, I quickly received a reply from him blessing me. I'm so glad I shared that message before he left us. I am diagnosed with retina pigmantosas an eyes conditions with no available cure. Last year I shared my annual eyes check-up result with him. He responded"Abraham, I will pray for you. Your next check-up will produce a positive result. Keep me posted." I believe he is now looking over me and still praying. Father Gary sometimes reminded me about the villages we used to visit in Liberia. How the villagers listened attentively when he shared the Good News with them. I still picture him and Mother Evelyn shaking everyone hands in the village while at the same time sharing the Gospel with them. I hope and pray the Lord will raise up many missionaries like the Harthcocks to spread his word. Finally, like David in the Old Testament when he lost his firstborn son said; in the same way, I also say I will join you in heaven when the Lord appropriate time comes. Farewell, and Farewell.

Gary and Evelyn were great examples of faithfulness to the Lord until He called them home. We are blessed to have known them!

It has been a delight to care for Gary during these last few years of his life. He was so steadfast in his convictions concerning God's plan to save the lost of the world. I am humbled to have known him and grateful to have been a witness to God's faithfulness to him and Evelyn. I am thankful for his testimony. It will be a reminder to me for a long time, that our job is to continue to work until the devil retires - as he used to say.

God blesses lives through the life and ministry of HIS children.  I can hardly imagine the number of lives touched and blessed through the life of our beloved friends and former neighbors , Gary and Evelyn, at P.T. Place in Chiang Mai, Thailand.  The Harthcocks were more than friends as they joined us in prayer, fellowship, helpful insight into our new culture, introductions to persons from many foreign places, providing what became "treasures" in their writings that we used  in our literacy efforts in personal ministries in Thailand and other assignments and always bringing joy to our visitors from the states and other countries as they shared their journey with God.  Jim (now deceased from a field injury) and I treasured our Harthcock relationship.  Just  three days ago, stateside friends who had visited us in Chiang Mai mentioned the joy that the Harthcocks brought to their lives as they shared their story.  What a legacy!  We rejoice at Gary's home going with all who knew and loved Gary as we celebrate a life well lived.   Jude 24-25
