My grandfather

October 14, 2013
My grandfather was a natural born leader and was the strongest man I've ever met. I remember the first time I met him I was 11 years old. He made small jokes and handed all us grandchildren business cards which I now think is funny. I later had contact with him at the age of 15. He had me stay with him a few weeks at a time showing me old pictures and told me about being in the navy. I wish I remember what he told me more in detail. I would go to work with him and he always had something for me to do. I went with him to a big meeting with a group of professionals , the group was called "toast masters" I believe. He introduced me to everyone as his grandson the wrestler. He was proud. He taught me how to be a man and earn your own keep. I have never met anyone so strong and determined to be successful in life and to continue to work so hard even when he had cancer. Gaylord Hanes was something beyond measure to most of us with his drive. We can all gain a little hope for ourselves if we look at his life. He had a faith that was strong in the end. Glad he met Christ before he passed. He seemed very happy from what the nurses said at his memorial service which was very , very touching to everyone . I'm proud of my grandfather and proud to be his grandson. "Rust never sleeps" family motto
