This memorial website was created in the memory of our beloved, Gennifer Canfield ("BB") Cross, 69, born on May 7, 1943 and passed away on June 12, 2012. We will remember her forever.

Today, we remember our beloved mother who would have turned 80 years old. She was a woman who touched the lives of all those who knew her with her warmth, kindness, and love. Her memory lives on through her children, who she raised with care and dedication, and her grandchildren, who she adored and cherished.

Mom was a strong and resilient woman who faced life's challenges with grace and a positive attitude. She taught us the value of hard work, perseverance, and compassion, and instilled in us the importance of family and community.

As we honor her memory on this special day, we are reminded of the legacy she has left behind. Her love and influence will continue to inspire us and shape our lives for years to come. Though she may no longer be with us, her spirit lives on through the memories we hold dear.

Happy 80th birthday to a wonderful mother, who will always hold a special place in our hearts.

So one day I was in the kitchen. I wanted to mess with Mom a little by calling her Ginnifer. Mom was in her bedroom. She called me and I ran to her bedroom, "yes Gennifer. Gennifer did you call me."
She said, "girl who give you the authority to call me Gennifer. You must be out of your mind. A who you a called Gennifer. Keep it up and I will show you Gennifer."
A couple of days later I tried it again and I had to run. She was running after me. Saying, "a who you a call Gennifer. You must be out of your mind." In bringing this to a closure. I believe she has stolen time from us. Once time is lost you're unable to get it back. God is good all the time. I'd love to have seen her as her got older.

The Last Time...

Superwoman

The last time I saw Mom (in this life) was when I paid her a surprise visit for her birthday and for Mother's Day 2012.

Around that time, I was traveling quite a bit and was somewhat fatigued with very little desire for another 18+ hours flight. However, I felt compelled (rather commanded) to go and see her and made a last minute booking. I shared my plans with Tawana and a few of my siblings and told them not to blabber their mouths and they kept tight lips. I know there were no leaks, because when I saw Mom, she was pleasantly surprised.

It was so great to see her. Mom was looking quite vibrant and seemingly on the road to a full recovery. She was so vivacious and we even broached the possibility of visiting Hong Kong. I had a really good and memorable time with Mom. For Mother's Day we had a sumptuous Jamaican style breakfast. As usual, we had some good laughter and lots of chatter.

During my visit, Mom had a craving for some fresh coconut water, so me and Tawana drove all over Brooklyn until we found a couple fresh coconuts for her on Church Avenue. I watched in rapt delight as Mom heartily drank every drop of the coconut water before enjoying the pulp. That was the last thing that I did for Mom before heading back "home" to Hong Kong. In parting, I got a big tight lingering hug from Mom and she thanked me profusely for visiting and wished me God's speed.

That was the last time I saw and touched Mom (in this life).

I miss my Mom! You were a superwoman, yes you were!
