Gerald J. Hansen, age 90 of Randolph, NE and formerly of Coleridge, died on Sunday, February 19, 2012 at the Norfolk Veterans Home in Norfolk, Nebraska.

Funeral Services will be on Wednesday, February 22, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Coleridge with the Rev. Katherine Russell officiating. Burial will be at the Rose Hill Cemetery in McLean, Nebraska with military honors by the Randolph VFW Post #5545. Visitation will be on Tuesday at the Wintz Funeral Home in Coleridge from 4-8:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue on Wednesday at church one hour prior to services.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Kyle Gunnerson, Steven Bossung, Scott Bossung, Matthew Smith, Benjamin Hansen, Brian Hansen, Gabriel Hansen, Cory Hansen, William Hansen, Michael Hansen, Christopher Hansen, and Bryan Swanson. Honorary pallbearers will be granddaughters, Roxanne (Smith) Mathews; Kelli (Hansen) Larson; Renee (Hansen) Mount; and Lindsay Swanson.

Gerald John Hansen was born on January 24, 1922 to Henry C. and Augusta (Buchholz) Hansen on the family farm near Coleridge. He grew up and lived in the Coleridge area most of his life. He served in the Marine Corps from August 25, 1942 until October 31, 1945. Gerald married Lavone Sellon on September 14, 1945 in Randolph, Nebraska. He and Lavone moved from farm near Coleridge to the Randolph area in 1965 where he continued farming. Gerald retired in 1986 and then moved into Randolph. Lavone died on July 12, 1998 at the age of 73 years. Gerald had been at the Colonial Manor Nursing Home in Randolph for over the past year. He was residing at the Norfolk Veterans Home at the time of his death.

Gerald was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Coleridge and a member of the Randolph VFW - Alvin Kessler Post #5545. He also loved to play cards.

He is survived by his five children and their spouses, Carolyn and Raymond Bossung of Lincoln, NE; Dianne Smith and Jim Gruidel of Johnson Lake, NE; Robert and Linda Hansen of Lincoln, NE; Joseph and Gail Hansen of McLean, NE; Daniel and Alice Hansen of Wichita, KS; 16 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; special friend Norma Novak of Randolph, NE.

Gerald was preceded in death by his parents, wife Lavone; three brothers Lawrence, Irvin and Wilfred Hansen; two sisters Lillian Petersen and Alvera Houston.
