TO OUR DEAR SWEET SAL

By Mary Alice-Rouson Floyd

I WILL NOT HIDE MY TEARS TODAY
FOR SOME SPECIAL IS GONE AWAY
INTO A HEAVENLY LIFE GOD PREPARED
AND YES I HOPE TO MEET YOU THERE.

I'LL TRY TO LIVE IN EVERY WAY
A LIFE MORE PLEASING DAY BY DAY.

WHEN JOY AND LAUGHTER FILL THE AIR
AND JESUS WAITS TO MEET US THERE,
I'LL ONLY PAUSE A MOMENT OR TWO
TO SAY HELLO AND I LOVE YOU.

BUT NOW I MUST HAVE MEMORIES
TO TAKE THE PLACE OF MANY YEARS
AND THINGS OF OLD YOU USE TO SAY
WILL BE OUR STRENGTH THIS LONELY DAY.

AS YOU'VE TAKEN YOUR PLACE IN THE HEAVENS ABOVE
GOODBYE FOR NOW.....GOD BLESS YOUR LOVE.

GRANDMOTHER WAS A DEVOTRED MEMBER OF MORNING STAR M. B. CHURCH IN STAR, MS WE WALKED MILES TO CHURCH AND AS FAR AS I CAN REMEMBER, WE NEVER MISSED A SUNDAY.  I HAVE GRANDMOTHER TO THANK FOR PLANTING THE SEED OF DESIRING TO KNOW AND LOVE GOD AS I DO TODAY  I AM EVER SO CLOSE TO MY SAVIOUR AND ONLY HOPE I CAN BE HALF THE GRANDMOTHER SHE WAS. THE PICTURE OF THIS CHURCH  IS ONE OF MY BACKGROUNDS FROM POGO, BUT IT IS SO CLOSE TO THE LITTLE CHURCH SHE USE TO TAKE US TOO. GOD TRULY IS A PROVIDER.

***THANK YOU FATHER FOR SHARING MARY THURMAN WITH ME!***

THIS I A POEM I WROTE REMEMBERING THE LONG WALKS WE TOOK TO CHURCH. THE TITLE IS      "I'SE BEEN THINKING"

****************************************************************************

I'se been thinking how hard it's been,
fer my people long the way.
But I sho take time to thank my God,
for this freedom I have today.
But let me tell you bout some chillen,
they live down on my street,
and would rather take this precious freedom
to buy drugs than food to eat.
why they never chopped no cotton,
nor picked no sugar cane,
yet they stands around not working,
and call themselves a man.
Say the world owe em something,
cause they ancestors,
wuz slaves from across the sea.
Jesus paid that price,
So get in line at calvary.

I remember way back yonder,
Church was so far away
we had no cars to drive,
But we walked every meeting day
now most everybody got cars,
sitting outside the doe
don't have to do nothing but walk out,
that's still to much for some to do.
They ain't got no praising power,
Turning way from God,
Letting that ol devil take up,
Where man done left off.
But it's gona take moe than a march
To shake this devil off
and all we need,
God nailed to the cross
Now we so busy watching some man plan,
Best get our eyes on Jesus
That devil ain't no man.

SOME OF THE THINGS I MISS

March 25, 2012

SOME OF THE THINGS I MISS MOST ABOUT GRANDMOTHER IS HER LOVE FOR  HER ONLY CHILD, SHE CALLED HER DOLL BECAUSE OF HER BEAUTY AND THAT LOVE SHE HAD FOR MOMMA WAS PASSED ON TO US.  ALSO MISS THE APRICOT WINE SHE MADE, THE PERSERVES AND JAMS AND JELLIES SHE WOULD MAKE.  BLACKBERRY JAM WAS MY FAVORITE.  ONE CHRISTMAS SHE MADE A SEVEN LAYER CHOCKLATE CAKE, MAN IT WAS TALL.  SHE WOULD ALWAYS MAKE US LITTLE GINGERBREAD MEN FOR BREAKFAST AND TEACAKES FOR LUNCH WHEN WE WASN'T IN SCHOOL.

ONE OF OUR FAVORITE  TIMES WAS TO GATHER AROUND THE VICTROLLA AND LISTEN TO SONGS.  MY OLDEST SISTER AND I TOOK TURNS CRANKING IT.   SONE OF HER FAVORITE SONGS WERE IF I COULD HEAR MY MOTHER PRAY AGAIN AND WRECK ON THE HIGHWAY.
