His Life

Haing's Death

June 8, 2013

All the suffering Haing endured came to avail. He survived the killing fields. Unfortunately, nine years after his famous appearance as Dith Pran in The Killing Fields, Haing was shot outside of his home in Los Angeles, CA.
Many believe it was a homocide linked to the Khmer Rouge and others believe he was just at the wrong place at the wrong time. No matter his cause of death, it is still sad to think after suffering all the brutalities under Pol Pot's regime that he died to an unidentified bullet. Haing's work lives on and will be truly missed.

Haing's Life

June 8, 2013

He was born in Samrong Yong, Cambodia on March 22, 1940.
He was always a bright boy and he was encouraged to partake in the field of medicine. He studied as a gynecologist and surgeon in the Cambodian capital of Phnem Penh. In 1975, the Communist Khmer Rouge forced millions of people out of the city to the countryside including Ngor and his family.
He knew he had to conceal his education in order to survive. The Khmer Rouge wanted to start over and erase all signs of knowledge and technology in order for everyone to be "equal".
The "Year Zero" could not contain any intelligence or hints of Western influence.
