Harold J. Cavanaugh, M/Sgt, Ret. (USAF), age 81, passed from this life on Sunday, July 25, 2010, following a

 

Harold was born in Maple Grove, Wis., to Aloysius Cavanaugh and Mary Kirby Cavanaugh and later moved to Manitowoc. Hal was one of 10 children. After his high school graduation, he enlisted in the Air Force, retiring after 24 years of service during which time he and his family were stationed in Japan, Europe and numerous stateside assignments. He moved to Aurora, Ill., and started a second career in security, transferring to Clearwater, Fla., in 1982. A loving husband and father,

Hal is survived by his wife, Mary, of 55 years; sons: Gary (Rebecca) of Tega Cay, S.C., Ronald of Montgomery, Ill., Terry of Las Vegas, Nev.; daughters: Susan (Russell) Petersen of South Windsor, Conn.; and Deborah (John) Hairr of Lillington, N.C.; eight grandchildren: Claire, Paul, Holly, Shelby, Mason, Cooper, Brian and Julia; and two great-grandchildren: Ashley and Torrie. He is further survived by brothers: John (Gail) and Robert (Luanne) of Manitowoc: and sisters: Rose Mary Van de Castle, Margaret Friedland, June Gallagher of Manitowoc, Alice Baryenbruch of Green Bay; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers: Edward and William; and a sister, Rita.
