Her Life

She was the daughter of the late J. W., Sr. and Gertrude Mathis Horton and was a native of Jasper, FL. She was retired from Civil Services at Ft. Benning, GA, and was a member of Wynnton Hill Baptist Church where she served diligently with the Trustee and the Christian Women in Action Ministries. Mrs. Jones was also very active with the integration of the Columbus Concharty of Girl Scout of America, having organized the first local African American troop at the Carver Heights Presbyterian Church. She was preceded in death by two siblings, James Horton, Jr. and Lucille White.

Survivors include: her husband of 61 years, SGM (Retired) Heldon J. Jones, Sr.; two sons, Rickey L. Jones (Sophie) and Heldon J. Jones, Jr.; three daughter, Vanzetta E. Bourne (Duke), Vonita L. Porch (Ruben) and Adele E. Andujar; fourteen grandchildren, seven great grandchildren; one sister, Elnora Williams; loving in-laws, Jesse T. Jones (Mae Frances), Ann Hinson (Prince), Alice Gibson, Larry Jones, Tim Jones and Wayne Jones; several nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
