His Life

Spencer, Henry Lee, affectionately known as “Bob” of Union Springs, AL passed away on Thursday, October 16, 2014 at age 64. He was born in Tifton, Georgia on March 29, 1950. Mr. Spencer was preceded in death by his parents, Christopher Spencer and Leila Barron; siblings, Marian Cunningham, Leon Cunningham, Christine Cheaves; and step-son, Fitz Lloyd Evans, Jr.

He leaves to cherish his memories, his wife of 31 years, Mary Spencer; his loving daughters, Sharon Spencer, Terry Green, Takeya Butler, Ebony (Jerome) Jackson Jr., and Kimberly Spencer; sons, Henry Lee Spencer Jr. and Jeffrey Spencer; a stepdaughter, Michelle (James) Osmond; brothers, Robert (Mary) Cunningham, Grover Yancy, and Tony Yancy; sisters, Sharon Yancy and Francina Yancy; 17 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Diana (Morris) Calhoun Sr., a host of nieces, nephews, many friends, and a beloved grand-dog, Macho.    

He was a proud United States Marine Corps veteran who served during the Vietnam War. After leaving the military, his lifelong love of cars led him to attend Roberts’ Technical & Trade Schools where he earned a Certificate of Attainment in Auto Mechanics. He returned to school a second time for painting and decorating, going on to work as a commercial painter and interior decorator in some of the most exclusive buildings in New York City. His travels also brought him to Sarasota, FL where he served as a deputy sheriff. He was an avid fan of Auburn football, a lover of music, and a constant giver. Mr. Spencer was a longtime member of Second Baptist Church and was well-loved by all who knew him.
