Note from Mr. Abdella, teacher at St. John's to his students letting them know of Herbert's death

October 18, 2015

Model UN members and recent alumni,

If you participated in SJMUN’s Service Day at Indian Lake over the last few years, you probably met Mr. Herb Adams.  I regret to inform you that Mr. Adams passed away this past weekend at the age of 91.  He was a decorated veteran who was awarded the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star as a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne while serving our nation in the European theater of World War II.  Mr. Adams was very concerned that the WWII memorials around Indian Lake be kept up to honor those veterans and our contact with the Indian Lake Association just wrote to me (attaching this 2013 photo of some of us with Mr. Adams) that he “so enjoyed getting to meet your students” and was ever-grateful for the service you rendered to maintain Indian Lake and the WWII memorials attached to it.

As there are so few WWII veterans left, I think we are all lucky to have met him.  You should be proud that you helped bring joy to such an American hero with the simple service that we do at Indian Lake for one day in May each year.  Please keep Mr. Adams and his family in your prayers and take a brief moment to reflect on the good that the men and women of his generation did for all of us.

This is my daily reminder that you all rock!

Best wishes,

CA
