I think this photo was taken at a celebration- perhaps either a birthday or anniversary.

Visting Albany

August 24, 2015

Uncle Howard visited in Albany, a few times.  Mark and I were living in Albany until 2003.  This photo was taken of his first visit when all of us went to a sushi restaurant.  I recall it was a warm day.

Visting Uncle Howard in Washington, D.C.

My sister Sharon, cousin Pat and niece Patricia visited Uncle Howard.  I think this was our first trip as I recall making 2 visits to see him.  We're at the bar that was on the campus of his residence.

HOT Coffee

August 22, 2015

Julia and Jerry's story about Uncle Howard reminded me of the time Mark and I accompanied my parents (Grace and Walter) to Saturday morning breakfast in Chinatown.  One thing Uncle Howard looked forward to was the continuous serving of HOT coffee.  He loved having HOT coffee to the point of not wanting to use liquid creamer because it would cool the temperature of the coffee.  So, he brought out a plastic baggie of some brand of dehydrated non dairy creamer and graciously offered it.  At first I thought he was lactose intolerant and that was why he carried around powdered non dairy creamer.  But I was informed that using powdered creamer was a way to keep his coffee HOT!

Uncle Howard

August 21, 2015

As Jerry's new girlfriend, it was quite overwhelming to meet the Young clan for the first time at the family reunion...Everyone was loud, laughing, and they loved to eat!!! I was introduced to so many people and I couldn't remember everyone's names.
But there was one person that stood out, and I was able to remember his name. It was Uncle Howard. He was one of the first to introduce himself, say a few words in Japanese, and he cracked a few corny jokes. He alway had a camera slung around his neck, and you had to watch out!!!!....he took the craziest shots. Usually he caught you with your mouth wide open, shoveling food into your mouth! They were always "candid" shots. Anyway, I remember Uncle Howard fondly. He made me feel like part of the family that very first time. And I will always remember him for that. We love you Uncle Howard. (Julie)
I (Jerry) can't forget the Wednesday night dinners at my mom and dad's Washington St. place, where my mom and Uncle Howard would start sipping the 'scotch on rocks' (many) before mom even cooked the feast before I came home from school or work.  Pretty noisy during dinner,& it got quieter as the meal went on! What a blast each Wednesday for countless years! I wondered how he got home each time. We miss you Uncle Howard.  (Jerry)
