My sister, my coded messenger

May 30, 2013

Words just cannot express the depth of my sadness; sadness at your sudden departure, but also from regrets of missed opportunities to be deeper in kinship than offered out to be, until caught by the twilight.  You were my perfect sister in those idyllic days at UNEC when all we had, or for most, was just our dreams. You showed so much care and was responsive to my deepest pains - those that I could not freely share. You were in every true sense, my perfect messenger - though a coded one. You shared most moments of my inner tribulation...and you seemed to understand and to read a bit deeper of me than the surface that was offered - all these could only be possible by a connection that only blood can achieve.... Indeed, you were my sister, united to me in a kinship that could best the best kinship of bloods.... Although you have gone, please let me say that I treasure every moment that we shared in UNEC...and I treasure all the love that you offered...Your memory and the memory of those days together remain one of the very best that I shall treasure, till the Lord decides that even for here, that it is the twilight, and that the candle must cease to burn.  Adieu Ijay, my sister and my friend...

Who is sleeping in my bed?

April 27, 2013

Ijay! still can't stop the tears flowing, at the same time still can't stop the smile when I rememeber your jokes; especially back in feddy owerri and how I would dress my bed and lie on the floor waiting for it to chill only for this bundle of trouble Madam Ijay to bounce in and thump on the bed with one question..."Irene, you always make this bed as if you are expecting some one?" And I would respond..."and you always come and lie on it as if its you!" Your cheeky laughter still rings in my ears each time I remember you. You had so much joy and love to give...oh! I-jay, my heart is broken knowing that you have left so soon but my joy is boundless to know that you are with our Big Daddy whom you always loved so much! Keep Big Daddy smiling and remind him you are expecting me and be sure my bed is dressed when I get there!
