Her Life
September 26, 2013

Inez Jennings Truitt was born November 10, 1916 in Hogansville, Georgia to the late Elijah and Kate Jennings and was the youngest of three children born to this union. Inez has been a member of Springfield Baptist Church for over 90 years and served faithfully until her health no longer allowed her to continue. Not only did she have a personal relationship with the Lord, but she taught Sunday School for many years and was an active member of the Mother’s Board.

Inez truly valued education and took great pride and joy in helping her own children with their studies, choosing not to work until after her youngest started school. For approximately 30 years she worked in the cafeteria at West End Consolidated School and over the span of 80 years was dedicated to many civic organizations. Inez loved to cook, laugh and watch the Atlanta Braves. Her sense of humor was evident in the way she interacted with her grandchildren, often playing games, singing songs and offering that special wisdom that only a grandmother could give. Her favorite phrase was “don’t go anywhere you can’t take the Lord with you.”

Inez and Nathan Truitt were life partners for nearly 71 years before his death in 2010. Inez was preceded in death by a precious stillborn son and another son, Tommy Felton and is survived by four children: Vivian Lynell Brown (William), Nathan E. Truitt, Jr., F. LaVerne Truitt-Hall and Benny Ray Truitt (Rosalyn); four grandchildren: Macquelyn Brown, Kalya LaKesha Maze (Martin), Nathan E. Truitt, III and Racine Wynn (Spergon); four great-grandchildren, several beloved nieces and nephews that span four generations, cousins and beloved friends.
