A poem for Pam

February 22, 2014
Dear Pam, We're all here to celebrate in a special way. Your wonderful 75th birthday, it's hard to believe or even to conceive of the years gone by. Oh my, they sure did fly, but it's great to be alive. Even tho you're 75. You were born the eldest of three, You, sisters Rose and Isie. We all depend on you and you always come through. You started work as a teen and continued through all the years between. You traveled to many interesting places and saw many different faces. You made a lot of friends, the list never ends. You are a daughter, a sister, aunt, great aunt and godmother. And each category you are better than any other. It's no surprise you are an angel in disguise. The story be told it's not bad to be old. At least you're still around with two feet on the ground. What is the best way to tell you what we want to say. It's easy to let you know that we all love you so. We wish you centi anni, now let's dig in the panni. Written by Isabelle Roscoe

Poem for Rick & Lisa's Bridal Shower

February 22, 2014
Lisa was born in 1974. Our daughter whom we adore. A beautiful child sweet and mild, watching her grow year by year made her also more dear. She excelled in sports and always had good reports. She is clever and smart and has a very big heart. When choosing a career it became very clear to help make people well. As a nurse she does excel. She has enjoyed her single life but after meeting Rick she is excited to be his wife. We wish Rick and Lisa much happiness and love and many blessings from above. My mother generates so many memories for me. One of my fondest was her endearing habit of composing poetry for special occasions. Many of you have been the object of one of her poems; you will know she was at no risk of collecting a Pulitzer Prize. But her poems combined her creativity with her warmth and commitment to friends and family. Infused through all her poems was her great capacity for love. I thought it appropriate that I compose my own poem, in my mom's style. In it I hope to express my love for her and also help us remember. On this day we are torn About her life we'll laugh, her passing we'll mourn Everything about this person born 11 November She loved to cook food of every style If you were her guest, you always stayed awhile And though Italian she was proud to be She didn't really like spaghetti A margarita she was known to consume She was a genius with a mop and broom She always enjoyed lounging in the sun She liked to call her husband "hon" She was good at growing vegetables and flowers She could talk on the phone for hours...and hours...and hours She loved Puerto Vallarta's sea of foam She'd probably like this poem If you met her once, she'd become your friend And your friend she'd remain until the end This means there were many friends she had And today many people feeling sad Whenever you saw her she had a smile She held no malice, she had no guile But she always stood up for what she believed in Even though she married a heathen And if there was anything you'd need From helpful advice to cucumber seeds She was always, always there for you For you there was nothing she wouldn't do Now that this poem has come to its end It's time for family, acquaintances and friends To come together and say farewell To our beloved Isabelle Written by Doug Roscoe

Isabelle (Isie)

January 7, 2014
The only regret we have with meeting you is that it was not soon enough. We always said we wished we had met much sooner. You were such a great friend and wonderful person. We will miss your phone calls, even when we were out of town, asking what I was cooking. We will miss our dinners together and card parties. You truly were one of our best friends. I remember Isabelle

January 5, 2014
It was 1999 and we were expecting our first child. My husband and I took a trip to Italy for our last childless adventure. While we were checking in to our hotel all I wanted was a cannoli, my pants cleaned and the room that was promised to me. The hotel was giving me a colossal hard time and Isabelle stepped in speaking Italian and saved us. Something about Isabelle makes her your friend the minute you meet her. In a flash she was having them dry clean my pants, got us a room right around the corner of the front desk and later that night showed up at my door with a cannoli that the baby was craving. Little did I know that I made a friend for life and after Italy we stayed in touch. Every time Isabelle and Don took a trip we got a postcard from their vacation as though we were family. It was fun to hear from them like that and I kept in touch via baby events and milestones. When my second child was born I hadn't even told her that I was in labor and somehow her gift came the day we came home from the hospital. Every year the kids got goodies from Isabelle and Don and although they never met, they had an extended family member who always thought of them and it was special. From what I knew of her she was loving, crazy about her family, loved to travel, very thoughtful and full of life. I was so blessed to have known her and grateful that she shared a piece of their lives with us. I will forever remember the wonderful friends we made in Italy. Written by Sheryl Perry

A few words of honor for my dear friend Isabelle. She was truly a woman of substance, full of laughter, joy and the sweetest disposition. I can still see her beautiful smiling face. I remember so well when we all met in Puerto Vallarta, she and I hit it off. We became fast friends even though we lived miles apart. We emailed and had phone conversations and we even were able to meet in Puerto Vallarta a few times over the years. She was there for me through some difficult times and I loved her kind heart and her ability to always have something nice to say about her family and friends. She was always doing something good to help others. She had a deep love for her husband in my mind's eye. I can see the two of them dancing under a Puerto Vallarta moon. She loved her children and grandchildren and was so proud of their accomplishments. Those of us that we're fortunate enough to know her were indeed blessed. I have only one regret about my friend and that is that I didn't know her long enough. What I do know is that I have been lucky enough to have had an angel in my life... I called her Chabella. I will miss her. Written by Shirley Rhodes

Isabelle's Pizelles (Gauflits)

January 3, 2014

Mix:
1 lb. unsalted butter, softened
2 cups granulated sugar
1 lb. lite brown sugar
1/2 cup vegetable oil

Add 6 eggs or more

Put 2 tbsp pure vanilla in cup and add enough rum or whiskey to make 1/2 cup; add to mix

Then add flour one cup at a time and work it in with a big spoon until about 7 cups of flour is used to make it stiff enough to make small balls.

(This makes a pretty large batch, so if you are just starting out you may want to half or quarter it.)

For My Loving Mother

January 3, 2014

You’re a listener when I want to be heard.

You’re a provider when I long for the comfort of love and peace.

You’re an angel who exuberates beauty and goodness.

You’re a protector who calms my fears with reassurance.

You’re a teacher who has given me the wisdom and meaning of life.

You’re my encouragement that has given me the perseverance to pursue my dreams.

You’re a leader who is admired by her strength and independence.

You’re an optimist that makes me smile through darkness.

You’re a believer who gives me faith and hope.

You’re a friend always willing to extend herself unselfishly.

Mom, you have given me the most beautiful life with many treasured moments.

I love you with all my heart and more.

Thank you for being my loving mother.

Isabelle has been a lifelong dear friend to my mom and to our entire family.  She had a way of making everyone feel like family.   She and my mom have been dear friends for over 50 years and she was Godmother to my brother Bob.  I loved her laugh and her zest for life.

Izzie will be missed by all of us, and our thoughts and prayers are with her family. God Bless all of you.

It is difficult to put into words the sadness I am feeling. When Don called and told me about Isabelle's passing I could not believe it. Isabelle was so full of life. We spoke on the phone often in the last twenty plus years. Isabelle was always so cheerful and positive. When my twins were born over 12 years, ago, Isabelle often came over to visit. We always had a nice visit, and my oldest warmly remembers the many times Isabelle played checkers with him. We considered Isabelle as family, and my children proudly called her Auntie. How can we not? Isabelle was so warm, thoughtful, and caring. Isabelle was such a wonderful person, and will be in our hearts forever! We will always miss her. Love you, Isabelle! Linda
