This memorial website was created in the memory of our loved one, Iva Mae Alexander Kobayashi, 87. Iva Mae “Granny Goose” Alexander Kobayashi, born on July 21, 1924 in Hemphill, Texas, peacefully passed away on April 25, 2012 in the arms of her daughter, Dickie Sue. Iva was preceded in death by her loving husbands, Dick Alexander and Toke Kobayashi; Her parents, Walter and Dona Tatum; and brother, Gaylon Tatum. She is survived by her daughter, Dickie Sue Fries and son in law Joe of Las Cruces, NM and son Richard Alexander Jr. and daughter in law Jan of Dickinson, TX; and grandchildren: Tom Deale and Annemarie, Monica Rico and Dustin, Samy Mears and Aaron, Dona Rowe and Corey; great grandchildren: Caroline, Celeste, Alexandria, Reagan, Alexander, and Gracie Mae; and many other close family members and life-long friends that she loved dearly.
Iva and Dick Alexander were known for being proprietors of Alexander’s Pharmacy in Dickinson, TX and being very involved in the local community. Iva was a devout Christian with an extremely strong faith and could often be found with a bible in hand or her head bowed in prayer. Her Lord and Savior was the central focus of her life and we are confident her smile was gleaming more than ever when she arrived to meet Him.
A celebration of life will be announced at a later time but will be held in late July 2012, when all family members will be able to attend. Please check back for more details.
Please click on the "Stories" Tab above and share your memories of Iva "Granny Goose" with the family. We would really love to hear them.

Dearest Friend,
I just read your message. Oh Sue, I am so, so, sorry. I didn't know your mom well, but I fell in love with her the first time we met. I was just shocked, when I saw your e-mail. Is there anything I can do for you? I know you took wonderful care of her and she will be missed by all. When you are wanting to talk and go out, let me

Sylvia came from Gentiva Home Health Care and helped me give mother a shower the last several weeks. She was so gentle and sweet with mother. Mother felt so wonderful after she had her shower and put on a clean gown and climbed (with help) back into

Mother's 88th Birthday
On Mother's birthday and with great respect and love, Alee, Monica and I took her to her favorite restaurant, We ordered her favorite foods and celebrated her life. We talked about how much we miss her but how lucky we were to have had her for 87 years. We laughed and we cried. We know she would be glad that Tom was home from Afghanistan. We will always miss her and her great spirit. No one loves us like a mother does. We miss that so much! After lunch we took her for a ride like she used to love to do. Mother always enjoyed seeing the crops in the fields, the pecan orchards, the blue sky with white clouds and the beautiful mountains. These things gave her peace as they do us. We love you mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. We know you are in heaven and at peace.
Her Birthday Weekend
It's bittersweet...Glad to know she lived 87 years with her family and friends beside her...but wish it could have been at least one more year... I'm missing her a lot this weekend...just the way she said my name, I miss. I love you Goose.
A Birthday Remembrance
Aunt Iva Mae is especially in my thoughts today. She would have been 88 years old. Wish she was here to hug and take to Kelly's Restaurant for a birthday lunch and buy her a piece of coconut cream pie which she enjoyed so much. That's what we did on her birthday last year. Byron has some special childhood memories of Aunt Iva too. She made the very best sand tarts. God's Blessings to all of the family and her friends as we remember her birthday today.
Love, Janie and Byron (Scooter)
