I know Mr. Smith is missed even more on his birthday. I met a lady this weekend that just retired two weeks ago from your Carrollton,GA office and she spoke so highly of Mr. Smith, not only as a boss, but as a man and the company he represented and left behind. A friend for years.

Ms. Bettty, Ellen, Elizabeth and Carroll,
I am so very sorry that it has been such a length in time since your husband and dad's death. I was viewing McCarthy's website and saw this. My heart goes out to you all. I cetainly know what you have been through. There is something about being "Daddy's Girls." My thoughts, prayers and love go out to you as you travel this road. My fondest thoughts are the first time I saw your dad was prior to Springwood being built. My family rode up to the site on the weekend and we talked to your dad at the platform that had the drawings of what Springwood was going to be. We ALL had the enthusiasm of what was going to be some of the most memorable days of our lives. Love you all--Jennifer and Ashley Chadwick

When I moved back to West Point after getting married, I had a chance to be part of the leadership at Spring Road Christian Church and therefore, to be able to sit around the table with Smith Lanier. Wow, what a tremendous blessing in my life and a span of time that I will always cherish. Truly, a man of wisdom.

My heart is sad for the loss of a  man who I highly respected and loved.  Smith was one of the finest, if not the finest,  men I have had the pleasure of knowing and been associated with.  My heart goes out to Betty, the girls and all the family.  God bless you all.  Earnest and I are thinking of you.
