The Transition from Earth to Heaven

Jacqueline Renee Jackson Long, age 53, died January 28 at the Baptist Memorial Hospital.

She was born February 21, 1961, in Dumas to the late Eli and Maggie Ward Jackson.

She was a high school graduate from Pine Bluff High School and University of Arkansas. She was a member of New Hope Baptist Church in North Little Rock and in 2012, she was awarded a Scholarship from the Arkansas Governors' Commission on People with Disabilities Scholarship for the 2011/2012 academic school year and many other recognitions during her lifetime and career.

Ms. Jacqueline Long was on the committee for the Arkansas Governors' Commission on People with Disabilities Scholarship for the 2011/2012 academic school years and an advocate for the rights of people with disabilities. She earned two (2) B.A. degrees, Masters in Rehabilitation Counseling, Substitute Teacher, Sunday School Teacher, loved life, love to talk, love old movies and music.

Jackie was a mother to Omar, Dedra and Rodney Long, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, niece and friend to many. She was known as a God fearing, very sincere and diligent student and worker whose hard-work, despite her physical disability, was and will continue to be a constant source of inspiration for other people and workers with disabilities and family members through the work she leaves behind. She has always excelled in her academics and stands among the top students in her class. She has won many awards in both academic and extra-curricular activities in her community outreach to the disabled and church.

Her achievements stand out all the more because of the personal challenges that she had to deal with on a daily basis as a mother with disabilities. She worked part-time in the University of Arkansas and also took on part-time teaching jobs in schools as a substitute teacher to enable her to pay for her college fees and support to her family.

However, the personal challenges and her disability have never interfered with her enthusiasm and motivation to finish her Graduate and Post Graduate Studies. Studied Rehab Counseling at University of Arkansas at Little Rock. Her quests for excellence, knowledge, sincerity, and dedication have earned her respect and top honors in the family and in the University.

Survivors include eight sisters, Velma Dennis of Orlando, Fla., Verlee Fowler of Stockbridge, Ga., Dr. Joyce Newby Pittman McLaughlin of Cincinnati, Ohio, Bobbie Cofield of Lake City, Fla., Future Evans of Lithonia, Ga., Ella Sergeant of Hensley, Dr. Cheryl Jackson Golden of Pine Bluff, and Sharmin Whisonant of Lawrenceville, Ga.

Thursday, February 5 at the Serenity Gardens Funeral Home between hours of 1:00 pm - 6:00 pm

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, February 6, 2015 at

Burial will be held Friday at the VA National Cemetery in Little Rock immediately after the funeral.
