Things my Dad taught me

May 12, 2016

My Dad Fred was very patient and kind hearted.

He never got upset with me, never repremanded me. Never spanked me.

He was the one to teach me how to ride a 2 wheeled bike. I still recall his hand holding the seat to steady me.

He could ride a bike too. He took Charles for a ride with a childs seat on the back. I have a picture. To prove it.

He taught me how to drive cars. Stick and automatic. He wanted to make sure I could drive everthing in case of an emergency.
He also taught me to parellel park, He did a great job.I thank him every time I park.

He taught me my times tables. Even paid me to learn them.

It didn't help . I wasn't good at learning them.

He taught me by example, how to be nice to people.

How to get a good deal.

How to sell things.
He also taught me how to take good care of my car.

The best thing my Dad taught me , was to how to be loving ,kind, and to work hard, do my very best at everything I do. To be honest. If you borrow something return it.

Thank you Pop

Some of my Sunday memories with my Dad.

December 4, 2015

When I was a little girl, my Dad worked at Genkins Tow Truck Company in Oakland C.A.  About 24Th. and Telegraph Ave.  We went to Church one block from his work.  My Mother Opal , wanted to sleep in on Sunday's.  So Dad  took me to Sunday School on the way to work.
He had a wonderful old Chevy truck. The front windshield could open outward.  The frame was wood.  It was Red with Black fenders. Step side style.
I  think it was a 1932 or 1934.?   We drove on Foothill Ave towards church. Didn't take the freeway.

Dad and I , got to talk all the way to church.
We had wonderful conversation's.
He taught me how to tell all the car apart. What year's they were.

The floor board had tool's etc. that he had found on the road from working. My feet gently sitting on top of this pile.
He had to work the Graveyard shift during the week. So I didn't to see him a lot during the week.

I think he started teaching me to drive by letting me steer this truck.  He was a very patient teacher. Want me to be able to drive everything.

Every time I park my car, I thank my Pop for being such a wonderful teacher.

I sure wish I had my Dads old truck. Lot's of wonderful memories spent with my Pop in it.    Thank you Pop!
I never missed a day at Sunday School for years, because of these rides.  I have a pin with about 5 years.
Then the Church moved closer to our home.
