James Lewis Smith, 71, a former resident of Butner passed away Sunday, April 21, 2013 at his home in Swansboro.
A native of Harnett County, the son of the late Howard Leaven and Lucy Johnson Smith. He was a member of Northeast Primitive Baptist Church in Jacksonville, a veteran of the US Navy, worked at ABF Freight and was owner operator of Butner Florist, Butner Garden Center and Butner Jewelry.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM Wednesday, April 24th 2013 at Butner Presbyterian Church in Butner by Rev. Dave Vellenga and Rev. Lenny Rogers. Burial will be in Carolina Memorial Gardens in Creedmoor.
Surviving are his wife, Patricia D. Smith of Swansboro, a son, James Lewis Smith II and wife Michaele of Creedmoor, a brother, Eddie L. Smith of Chesapeake, Va., three grandchildren, Megan Ganzert and husband Matthew, Courtney Smith, Jay Smith and a great grandson, Miles Lewis Ganzert. He was preceded in death by a sister, JoAnn Smith and a great grandson, Weston Ganzert.
Flowers accepted or memorials may be made to Northeast Primitive Baptist Church in Jacksonville, NC.
Visitation 7:00-8:30 PM Tuesday evening, April 23, 2013 at the Eakes Funeral Home in Creedmoor and at other times at the home of his son .
Eakes Funeral Home in Creedmoor is assisting the Smith family.
