James M. Hunter, III, age 83, of 111 Ridge Road, Butner, NC, died September 18, 2017, following a short battle with cancer. He was the eldest son of the late James M. Hunter, Jr. and Louise Brooks Hunter.

Jim is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Dorothy Hartis Hunter, and one brother, Douglas Hunter. He is survived by his four sisters, Lou Bouldin (Gene) of High Point, NC; Mary Owen (Jim) of Semora, NC; Margaret Malpass (Mitch) of Turkey, NC; and Susan Hunter of Greensboro; nine nieces and nephews; and a lifetime of friends in and around Butner and his hometown of Turkey, NC.

He was a graduate of High Point College (now High Point University) and was a veteran of the United States Army.

Jim was a career employee of the State of North Carolina, retiring with the Food Distribution Division of the Department of Agriculture.

In his free time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, farming, raising cattle, and keeping bees with his nephew.

His family is particularly grateful to his loyal friends, Dr. and Mrs. Raymond Joyner, who were especially caring during his final illness.

Family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 7:30 P.M. Thursday, September 21, 2017 at Eakes Funeral Home in Creedmoor. Burial will be a private family service at South Granville Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to charity of one’s choice.
