His Life

Loving husband, father, and friend

January 18, 2014

Jay D. Teachout was born in Detroit, Mi. on August 5, 1924 to Jay D. Teachout Sr. and Sima Teachout nee Issacson.  Jay lived in Troy, Mi. for most of his childhood.  He graduated from Log Cabin High School in Clawson, Mi. and went on the serve in the Navy during WWII and was stationed in Hawaii.  He attended business school after the war and worked as an accountant.  He retired from Resnick Electric Company after working there for 30 years.

He married Bernice M. Yennior on January 12, 1946.  They grew up together on the same street in Troy, Mi.  He liked to tell the story of Bernice asking him to marry him in 2nd grade but Bernice says it was the other way around.  One of their favorite past times as young people were going to local dances.

He is survived by his loving wife, Bernice and three daughters, Kathy, Beth of Highland, Mi, and Judith of Highlands Ranch, Co.   He was a loving grandfather to three grandchildren, Jaclyn and Sean McWilliams and Sophie Klechka.  He is also survived by two great grandchildren, Liam and Morgan McWlliams.

He was predeceased by his son, Timothy, who passed in 1970.

Jay lived with his family in Troy, Mi. on the same street that he and his wife lived on as children.  The family spend summers and enjoyed water sports at the family cottage on White Lake in Highland, Mi.  He later built a home on this property and moved there from Troy.  He took up snow skiing at age 55. He enjoyed winters in Winter Haven, Fl. where he played golf often. His greatest love was spending time with his wife and family.

Everyone remembers Jay’s laugh.  Family and friends always said that they could be in a crowded room and they could pick out Jay’s laugh.

Jay was a wonderful husband, father, and friend. He will be missed.
