It was on this day 56 years ago you were taken from your beloved husband George Herbert Dale and your seven children - 6 boys and one little girl, me. I will never forget that day even though I was only 5 years old. I looked for you every day in the clouds because that is where everyone said you had gone. Over the years, I have managed to obtain photos of you and lots of stories about who you were. I miss you just as much today as always and can't wait till we are reunited one day. I love you Jean Mary, more every day.

Dear Mum, today is the memorial of your death, but thanks to the birth of my daughter Shelley Jean, you live on. She too has kind loving brown eyes and an amazing heart and intuition for children. I have missed you now for 55 years, I think I always will, well you were my Mum, my one and only. I love you. Catherine XX

My Dad chose your headstone - it is a beautiful pink. It was inscribed with your name and that you were the beloved wife of George Herbert Dale, my Dad. He told me he wouldn't rest until the names of all their children were also on the headstone. It made me sad each year I visited the gravesite (of both parents by now) to see lichen growing all over the inscription with not kids names

I talked to my Aunty Marie Journee about my desire to get the headstone reconditioned and also to have all the children's names engraved. She got it all organised and we went ahead with the work. Because there were 7 of us, a special little plaque was placed below the main headstone. I put two beautiful polyanthus plants on either side of the stone and photographed it for my 6 brothers.

I remember you my darling mum even though I was only 5 years old when you passed away at age 27. I have asked relatives what you were like and they all say you were a beautiful person in every way and loved her family beyond anything else. I have seen photos of you and I think you are a beautiful woman - My beloved mother, Jean Mary Dale aged 27, taken way before her time RIP

Did you know my darling Mum that my Dad George was devastated by your untimely death and struggled to keep your 7 children together. In the end he was diagnosed with a brain tumour and we all had to be put into foster care and institutions - take heart my mother, we all survived through all odds and bring glory to our Mum and Dad and their devoted love to each other and to their 7 kids.

My youngest brother Mark

July 13, 2013

Mark and I share the same birth date - 19th December and we are very similar in that we are both lovers of knowledge and have bright, funny personalities. We are both quite deep as well though.  Mark lives here in Auckland and is a member of the Hare Krishna Movement.  He is a chef and cooks at one of the big University Vegetarian Restaurants.

Living at Balfour Tce with my grandparents Paul and Agnes Journee

I went to live with my beloved Nanna, I was 5 and even though I had lost my Mum, I seemed to remain bright and full of life.  This picture is so special.  That is one of my favourite Uncles, Ray standing behind me.  This little dress was made for me and I will always remember all the layers of netting and how special I felt when wearing it.

The Dale Family

July 13, 2013

I will never forget this day.  The older children came home from school - Kevin, Christopher and me and we were scrubbed within an inch of our lives and I got to put on the organza dress with little white dots sewed by my Mum and the whole bodice smocked by her as well.  I still have the little dress thanks to my Aunty Therese saving it for me.  I cherish it.  My Mum was not to be with us much longer, in fact only a matter of weeks after this photo.  Our Dad George, Kevin, Christopher, Me, Eugene, Paul, Michael and Mark were left with a massive hole in our lives.  I am determined to live on hopefully bringing joy to my Mum and Dad up in heaven.
