At the end of August in 2008, Jeffrey Lynn Ozmore of Dinwiddie County went into a coma and never recovered. He died on September 6, 2008. At his request, the family put his ashes out to sea.
The poem was written by Jeffrey's sister about that experience.
THE LAST BOAT RIDE
We honored your wishes,
It was a bittersweet day.
With cloudy skies and choppy waters,
We said, "We're on our way."
The ride was rough,
But we didn't care.
The day was yours,
And we made it there.
With urn and prayer in a loved one's hands,
Beautiful, red roses in another's.
We wished you a final farewell.
How we'll miss you our dear brother.
As we turned to leave,
After our goodbyes,
The waters lay down, the sun parted the sky.
And we were in awe of God.
Our hearts no longer heavy with grief,
We felt you were finally at peace.
It was indeed the finest hour,
The day we left you at the tower.
