A year has passed since our family lost Cousin J.L. He was truly special because of his deeply abiding love and devotion to family. J.L. loved and served the Lord daily, and I rejoice that he no longer knows pain or sorrow, and I aspire to join him in praising God one day...a joyful reunion! The Hargrove Family remembers J.L. with great pride; we were blessed to call him cousin.

Cindy and family, Reading Cindy's heartfelt, accurate description of J. L. Akridge prompted me to share my fondest memory of this special man. After several years, my comatose mom was released from her bondage. J.L., a Hargrove cousin, was among the first to call the funeral home to express his condolences to me and my dad. This comforting gesture is permanently etched in my memory. J.L. and my mom shared a great love of family, love of God and dedication to the field of education. Through ensuing years I have enjoyed Christmas cards and other communications with J.L. and Vada. J.L. is definintely a man to be admired and emulated.

Cindy, Thank you so much for sharing this wonderful tribute to your father. Since we have shared some genealogy information with one another, I feel as if are closely connected. Your words about your dad rang so close to my heart as I think about my precious mother. Although your father's voice is still it continues to live in your heart just as my mother's is with me always. My love and sympathy for your loss, Anita

We are family

First I am sorry for the lost of your father. He sounded like he was a wonderful dad and really lovable person.
Second, This may not be the most appropratied spot to contact you but I am not sure even how I found you.  I just was "goggle-ing around". I have just become my family genenogist,  I came into some photographic of my grandmother's Opal Henson, who's mother was Mary "Carrie" Hargrove, daughter of Rufus and Harriett. Some photos have writing other it's a matching game.
After looking at your father"s online photo, I have many pictuces of your family in this suitcase of photos.   Mary "Carrie" Hargrove Henson and your grandma Lucy were sisters.

His Birthday

October 30, 2014

October 29, 2014

Daddy would have been 90 years old today.  He almost made it.  I think it was one of his goals.  He passed away on July 3rd, 2014.

Wish I could tell you Happy Birthday Daddy!  I always told him each year that  I remembered his parent's birthdays, and now this is a more special day each year.

This is the first time I cannot call him and tell him Happy Birthday and hear him laugh.  I looked at the sky this year and thanked God for taking care of him now.

He fought hard to live as long as he did.

He will be forever missed.
