I'm so grateful to Donna Corbin for sending me the link to Jo's memorial. These photos are just wonderful, showing a full, happy life! When we moved to Blountstown in 1987, we had our five year old, Jennifer, and were expecting our next child, Caroline. Soon after the baby was born, Jo called me, out of the blue. She introduced herself on the phone and made the connection that we attended the same church. We were still so new, I could not place her. But she went on. "My daughter Hope is our only child," Jo said. "My husband Peter and I would really like Hope to get to know your children, get to know what taking care of a baby is all about, so that when she's of babysitting age, she'll be ready. Could we come over sometime and help you with yours?" Jo was so sweet on the phone, but still a stranger to me. So I called Donna and asked her about Jo. Donna glowed about the family, about their faith, their genuine love for people. I called Jo back and we arranged for her and Hope to come over, and sure enough, I felt like I had always known her. Jo exuded love, and that's the way I met your family. God bless you as you continue to honor her memory in countless ways.

What a loss, but what a legacy your mom leaves. Hope, her memory will continue to inspire all of us to strive to always be at our best. I am praying for our Heavenly Father to wrap His arms of love around you and your family and give you strength and comfort.

I knew Jo through United Methodist Women at Saint Paul's United Methodist Church and through the many other areas in which she served. I was privileged to work with her through the Blood Drive held quarterly at Saint Paul's. She touched so many lives through her many acts of kindness. Such a sweet spirit! May God surround all of you and hold you in His care. That is my prayer! Blessings to one and all for the days ahead.

Jo was a very sweet lady. When my Mother was in the nursing home she went to visit her each week even though Mother didn't remember her. I miss seeing her on my visits to Tallahassee. Peter, you and your family are in my prayers

Jo was my first friend when I moved to Tallahassee in 2007. She was one of the kindest people I ever met. Like my sister said, Jo visited our mother weekly during the eight months she was in a nursing home. I miss visiting with Jo over the backyard fence, sharing food, especially Jo's pumpkin roll, and most of all her phone calls. "Joyce, this is Jo" is how all her calls began. Rest in peace my friend.

Aunt Jo-Frances was one of the most kind, compassionate, and unselfish people that I have been around! She never had a bad thing to say about anyone.

She always had a smile on her face and an upbeat attitude. Our prayers and thoughts are with Uncle Peter, Hope, and Ben.

We love you all,

Ty, Anna, Mason, and Alaina

Blountstown United Methodist Church counted Jo as our most enthusiastic Mother in the late 1980's when she, Peter and Jenny moved to our town!  Our children's department was full of children and Jo was an instant leader.  Always optimistic and full of energy, she was the boost we mothers needed!  She was creative and organized!  We all loved this family and have missed them and have often talked of our days in the Children's ministry of the church with them.  Our two youngest daughters, Natalie and Frances often spent Sunday afternoons playing with Jenny!  Peter and Jo provided hours of fun for them and they still hold those memories dear!  We were so sorry to hear of Jo's illness and our church had you all on our prayer list through this time.  Our prayers continue with you as you adjust to your loss.
Our love to you all,
Donna Corbin

Generosity

August 11, 2015

If you have ever walked in our neighborhood, you most likely know Jo!  She's the one with the big smile and kind words.  We would catch up for a minute (and sometimes longer), if we had the time.  We have missed her in the neighborhood.  We are thanking God for the opportunity to get to know Jo & Pete and count them as friends and neighbors.  Now she walks and talks in the garden with our Lord.  Someday we shall see her again, we are encouraged by that truth!

I wanted to share what strikes me most about Jo, it was her generosity.  Whether a smile (a mile wide), a laugh or a concern it was always wrapped in kindness and thoughts for others.

Just a few examples - offering to walk our special needs son, Paul, in the neighborhood; sharing the news of a neighborhood break-in; vegetables from the garden; a bluebird home; helping move Bobbi & Jenni & Kevin; neighborhood parties ('what can I bring or can we give you money for food?'); sharing her time and love for life with children, she delighted in children, especially Jenni & Kevin's group!

Charlie & I are thankful for last New Year's Eve neighborhood party, and our last visit on the front porch.

We are praying for you, Pete, Hope & Ben.

In His amazing grace - Julie & Charlie
