Nurse's Prayer - When illness strikes or pain demands, and a life is placed within my hands, give me compassion, knowledge and skill to do the things that comfort and heal.

Jocelyn (Joy) Lettice Cetora Miller, 57, of Union City (Atlanta), Georgia, passed away Monday, September 2nd after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born in St. Louis, Missouri on December 15th, 1955 to John Anderson (deceased) and Wendell R. Miller. Jocelyn confessed her faith in our Savior Jesus Christ and was baptized at an early age at Christ Pilgrim Rest MB Church.  Jocelyn graduated from the Gifted Program at Walnut Park Elementary and the 1974 class of Northwest High School and went on to receive her Registered Nursing Degree from the St. Louis Municipal School of Nursing. She married her ex-husband, the late Daniel “Punch” Rhodes II in 1978. To this union was born John William Anderson Rhodes and Daniel Rhodes III.

Jocelyn took pride in her work as a nurse in labor and delivery and assisted in the births of cousins, her niece Wendy, and the children of many friends. She was also known as the consummate hostess, always prepared to share a meal with her son’s friends who adopted her as a second mother and her family and friends; or she would bring a dish to coworkers at Emory Hospital Midtown. She was best known for her cheesecakes.  Jocelyn was also a wordsmith and trivia expert who handily beat all challengers at Words with Friends and successfully competed on the television program Who Wants to be a Millionaire?

Jocelyn is survived by her sons John (Chasity) Rhodes and Daniel Rhodes III, grandsons John William Anderson Rhodes, Jr., and Julian Maurice Rhodes, granddaughters Chase Menee Rhodes, and Cetora Deniece Michelle Rhodes, Cetora’s mother Prathenia Peeples, sisters Evelyn Juanita Miller of Kalamazoo, Michigan, Renee Miller of Waterloo, Iowa, Kristal Miller of Van Nuys, California, and Eunice Faye Miller of St. Louis, Missouri, niece Wendy Renee Miller, nephew Christian Gregory Miller, a host of friends and family, and her loving mother Wendell R. Ballentine Miller.

Jocelyn’s wonderful spirit will be celebrated at a 10 am Memorial Celebration, September 21st, at Christ Pilgrim Rest MB Church at 1341 N Kingshighway Blvd, St. Louis, MO 63113, Phone (314) 367-2974.

"Joy, thank God for all of the times we did have together.  Year 1 without you has been tough.  Yoonie and I keep holding each other up.  Plus I got a cat, I mean a crazy cat who is a great distraction as well as a wonderful friend.  I was so down this whole weekend and Jackie the cat kept a constant eye on me.  I almost felt like you told her to keep me safe. I am asking God's forgiveness for everything I've done or am doing wrong in the grieving process. I am so grateful that we are a family of saved people.  I know you are having a great time in heaven, so I don't want to act like a hater because you and Daddy and the rest of the fam are having fun without me.  I'll wait my turn.  Keep an eye on your sons and grandkids this month.  I'm praying for some baptisms!!! I love you Joy.  - Always and forever, Ren"

"Joy, I had a bad weekend this weekend. Missing you became unbearable and I dealt with it in all the wrong ways.  I'm trying not to get overwhelmed by sadness.  I will not let you and especially not let God down.

I'm so proud of you for what you did for John and Danny.  You have been the best mom, grandmom, sister, daughter, and friend.  You rock Joy.  I love you."

"Joc, your presence is missed. Hearing you laugh, you making us laugh to tears, making us smile, feeding us with good food at work, and beating us with every online trivia game. I never got to say good bye, but that's ok because I know we will meet again. I am honored you have shared with me and to have been your friend. Heavenly angel, watch over us and come visit from time to time. Esh"

"When I think about Joy, all I can do is smile.  What an absolute indomitable spirit!  She was so loving, caring and so engaged in living.  Joy was such a fitting name for her.  She was so willing to move past her own boundaries.  Who else was a contestant on Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, tried out for Master Chef and memorized the cards from Trivia Pursuit?  I will miss her so much......."

""Joy, I will never forget the way you took me under your wing when I first moved to Atlanta, you gave me the mother away from home feeling." Once I got settled you gave the " watch over my son speech" because he was always hanging out with me. I can honestly say you laid the foundation for John and Danny that  molded them into the good strong fathers and two good guys that they are today."
