I was a New Yorker

July 23, 2013

and Joe was a Southern Gentleman...Conn Organ is where we met...Even tho' we were North and South, we immediately became friends...We worked together for many years at Conn and then at Kohler and Campbell... Loved the way he made chicken and dumplings when I would visit him in CA.... A fine man... taught me how to slow down and live and enjoy the southern hospitality! Thanks for all your hard work Joe, in making me what I am today....You are and always will be a class act!

Love you always,

joey (Tank) Visceglie

Visiting a friend of Jack Wilson

June 30, 2013

Joe loved this "Henry's Grocery" den that Bill created out in his yard - had a room inside, but everyone gathered in chairs on the porch to yack... Joe loved it.

could not help himself - again

Standing up there with wrong kind of shoes and heat beating down in mid July, up there talking about the shingles etc.  What a guy!

Here is Joe P again in S. C.

June 30, 2013

The man in the shorts is Bill McAbee - the long time friend of Jack's from high school days that is the welder and creater of the "Henry's Grocery" den outside of his home.  Joe P loved it..

This is Jack and Vicki with Joe and Bill...   Snooky and The Squire together again......

could not help himself

June 30, 2013

When he did visit in 2005 in S. C. - he just could not help himself.  He got up on the roof and put tar around the chimney for us.  Jack has heart issues - and is afraid of heights anyway - and Joe walked up the steep roof with his big self and fixed some shingles - I wll post two pictures in all.

Visiting our friend with us in S. C.

June 30, 2013

We have a good friend that is a welder and a creator of "stuff" - he created an outside den behind his welding shop and his home in Travelers Rest SC.  We took Joe up there to see it - he LOVED it so he sent something to Bill to add to his "den".  I thought that was so thoughtful of Joe.   I am going to put a picture up of the "den" and the set a spell front porch.  Bill created one of the gas pumps himself from just looking at the other.  He is a master welder... - I will put up a few pictures.. Joe enjoyed that visit so.

Riding in the mountains of N. C.

June 30, 2013

We moved to S. C. back in 2005 and Joe came to visit.  Jack and I both had motorcycles with sidecars and Joe rode with us in the larger of the two sidecars.  He looked like a stuffed bear (even in his 60's) sitting riding around the curves.

He enjoyed that ride - it was a beautiful July day and we stopped at a little church by a stream and the mountain went straight up the back of the church - Joe said, "now this is God's country for sure, look at this scene" - That was our last visit, but we kept up by phone forever.

The grocery store visit

June 29, 2013

When we lived in CA around 1982 (when Joe was also living there), Joe would always be invited for Thanksgiving dinner.  Vicki needed something from the grocery store so Joe rode with me to pick up whatever she needed.  Joe loved to wear a pair of "women's mules" (slippers) as bedroom shoes when was loafing around the house so he had those big, fluffy mules on his big feet.  I bought what Vicki needed and when we got to the checkout counter, Joe started pretending to be very gay and that I was his domestic partner.  I kept telling him to stop so he said in a very loud voice as he looked at the young, female cashier", "Do you see how he treats me?  He's just awful and he treats me this way all of the time.  Always throwing a snit".  I turned red as a beet and Joe was standing there in those mules with his hands on his hips, speaking in the most effeminate voice that he could muster and he didn't crack a smile.  When we got out of the store, he started laughing and it became the topic of the day when all of the other guests arrived for Thanksgiving dinner.  It was extremely funny and Joe did it so well that it could have been a great scene in a feature movie.  We laughed about this for many years and it was one of his finest performances.

Remembering Joe

June 28, 2013

I have lots of fond memories of Joe, such as double dateing in high school.
I think of all the days of football practice and games at Central and Hinds Jr. Collage. Joe was a great player.
We were in the old 114th Military Police Co. spent a lot of crazy days at Camp Shelby.
Rest in peace old friend

Joe, our friend

June 28, 2013

We will surely miss our friend, Joe.  We enjoyed being with Joe when he came to visit Bonnie and her girls.  We remember how sweet Joe was in High School at dear old Central High School.  Joe and I graduated CHS in 1958.
Our hearts go out to Bonnie and the rest of the family.
Always,
Ann Wade Hart and David Hart
