His Life

John Curtis  Edwards  was born to the late Edmond and Veornia Edwards on May 2, 1934.

He joined New Elam Baptist Church at an early age. He attended Coosa County Training School in Cottage Grove, Alabama.

On September 6, 1954 he married the former Cora Dean Brookens and was married for fifty-seven years. To this union was born two sons and three daughters.

He served on the Deacon Board for many years at New Elam. He was a shape note singer and sang in Coosa and Elmore counties. He was a mason for many years of Cottage Grove Lodge #274. He work and retired from Marietta Harriet Marble Company for thirty-two years in Sylacauga, Alabama.

Mr. Edwards was a loving husband, devoted  father, grandfather and uncle. He loved his grandchildren and they loved him. He was not a man of many words, but when he spoke, everyone listened. He loved fishing and gardening.

He departed this life August 14, 2012 at Goodwater Health Center in Goodwater, Alabama. He leaves to cherish  his memories:  a wife, Cora D. Edwards of Rockford, Alabama; two sons, Bishop Eddie (Cynthia) Edwards of Rockford, Alabama, Rev. Michael (Laura) Edwards of Montgomery, Alabama; three daughters, Luretha (Leonard) Peoples of Ft. Worth, Texas, Beverly (Samuel) Leonard of Equality, Alabama, Vanessa Edwards of Waldorf, Matyland; thirteen grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; one brother, Calvin (LaSondra) Edwards of Kellyton, Alabama; two sisters, Annie Lee Wilson and Allie Ivey of Gadsden, Alabama.
