John Madison Dickerson, 57, a lifetime resident of Granville County passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, July 17, 2018.
Matt was a native of Granville County. He was the son of the late Douglas and Betty Ann Currin Dickerson and the grandson of Roy and Nell Currin. Matt was retired from Granville County Schools after thirty years of service. He served on the Granville Rural Fire Department for forty-two years and was the assistant chief for the last twenty-five years. He was currently employed with Hilltop Lumber Company and the Oxford Fire Department.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 PM, Thursday July 19, 2018 in the Eakes Funeral Chapel in Oxford by the Reverend John Yount. Burial will be held in Meadowview Memorial Park in Oxford.
Visitation will be held from 12:00 until 3:00, prior to the funeral, at Eakes Funeral Home in Oxford.
Surviving are a daughter Betsy Dickerson, a son Doug Dickerson (Sammy Jo), his wife Claudette F. Dickerson all of Oxford,  one brother, David Dickerson (Terry) of Oxford, three sisters, Lisa Oakes (Barry), Anna Yancey (Jeff) and Betty Hicks (Kenny) all of Oxford and two grand-dogs Diesel and Roxy.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Granville Rural Fire Department, 6700 Matt Currin Rd., Oxford, NC 27565.

Will miss the gathering on Sidney Cottrell road with Matt being there. Being at Dennis Thanksgiving suppers or the road gathering for a special celebration. Heaven gained another good guy.  Prayers for the family and the extended family and friends.

Matt was the kind of person that would have me laughing in a few minutes when around him. May God bless the family as you go through this difficult time. He loved his county and community.He will be greatly missed.

We have known Matt from when we started our business in 1984 and have known him to be such a nice person.  Our hearts are heavy with his loss and our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends.

Claudette, Doug, Besty and family, Matt was a wonderful person so full of life, always making people smile. Smile on the Memories and hold them tight. He will truly be missed by many, many people because of all the lives he touched. You all as with all extended family are in our thoughts and prayers and will be for times to come. Betsy, Doug and Claudette my heart breaks for you and all your family. Matt was an awesome person and loved by so many. Cherish the memories and keep them locked in your heart. It is with immense sadness that I write this.. Matt was a man who always carried a laugh and was always a pleasure to work beside in any situation.  He will be greatly missed and my heart and soul goes out to the family. May God give you the strength to carry you and comfort you in the future that lies ahead.

Betsy I am heartbroken for you your brother and your mom. Life deals us some horrible blows! I wanted you to know I will be on. Raleigh Thursday for a state testing appointment and will be unable to attend the visitation or service but please know I have already lifted your family in prayer and will continue to do so.
