John Pinson Carter was born October 26, 1961 to Dr. & Mrs. William A. Carter in Anniston Memorial Hospital.   John attended the Episcopal Day School, the Donoho School, Anniston High School, and Saks High School in Anniston. After moving to Irondale, he ultimately graduated in 1980 from E.B. Erwin High School in Centerpoint. He received an Associate of Science Degree from Jefferson State Community College and received his Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Montevallo in 1987.
Following graduation, he joined the Irondale dental practice of his father, Dr. William A. Carter, as a dental lab technician, a craft he had worked at part-time while pursuing his education. After years of hard work, John formed Eastwood Dental Labortory, which would come to serve a large number of dentists throughout the Southeast.  John also taught many other young dental technicians.
However,  even though he was a successful entrepreneur, John will most be remembered for his love of his family and friends, and his kindness and support of his fellow man.  While he had always been a companion to his own father,  in 1993, John, too, became a father following the birth of his only child, Leslie Renea.  He finally surrendered the follies of his youth and set about only doing what was right, in order that he set a good example for his daughter.  Also, through his activities with both local and regional Narcotics Anonymous groups, he helped many people find their way out of addiction.  It was through actions such as these that he developed a large group of devoted friends.  Also, he was a loving son, brother, father, and uncle; however, it was his role as grandfather to Zane that brought his life its greatest joy and its ultimate fulfillment.
We will all miss his smile, his understated humor, his great taste in music, and the love that we were fortunate to share with him.  He was a man of great character.....and he was a character!

One year ago you left us, and this world has been a much more lonely place for all of us. Even lonelier still since Dad and Jennifer heard the call of "Uncle John's Band" and joined you beside the riverside. Who knew Heaven could become so much more beautiful in such a short time? I miss you all.

I lit many candles for your spirit to lift to heaven. You have always had a special place in my heart John Carter going back many, many years. Will always love you.
