His Life

His favorite things

January 8, 2017

Here's a list of Josh's favorite things (in no particular order):

Going to Fry's - he used to call it the equivalent of Disneyland for him.

●  Popeye's chicken - that man could eat fried chicken every single day of the week.

World of Warcraft - on a typical day, Josh probably spent anywhere from 1 to 6 hours a day playing WOW, raiding, cursing out loud when his team couldn't defeat a boss, joking around with his friends on Skype, and mining for gold.

Kids - I've never met a man that genuinely loved kids. Every time he would see a baby/kid on the street, his whole face would light up and he would smile. He loved teaching kids how to do things, whether it was crawling for the first time, riding a bike, playing basketball/video games, eating with chopsticks - Josh had an innate ability to be a teacher and he was very patient with kids.

Chrysler 300C - he loved his car, sometimes he would joke around and say that he wasn't sure if he loved his wife or his car more.

Chance - when Chance came into our lives, Josh said that he was a dog person but didn't mind cats too much. Little did he know Chance would steal his heart. Every time Josh was on the couch or sitting on his desk chair, you would find Chance either on his lap or hanging out on Josh's shoulder - they had a genuinely true "bromance".

Fuddruckers - while Josh loved In 'n Out burgers, Fuddruckers was his favorite place to get a cheeseburger. He loved drowning his wedge fries in jalapeño melted cheese.

Vanilla ice cream/shakes - people that knew Josh also knew he was probably one of the pickiest men alive. He loved ice cream but only vanilla flavor, sometimes oreo but not really.

Fixing computers/cars - they were like big toys to him and once he was able to fix a problem, you could easily tell how accomplished he felt because of his big beautiful smile.

TV shows - Josh was an avid Netflix marathoner. His favorite shows of all time were: Game of Thrones, Gold Rush, Marco Polo, Vikings, Ancient Aliens, Dexter, and Breaking Bad.

Porterhouse steak - he could able hold a record for the fasters Porterhouse steak eater in the world. He loved garlic & herb butter on his steak and roasted vegetables.

Hot showers - Josh enjoyed taking really really hot showers, I never understood how his skin could handle that amount of heat.

Ice cold water - he always avoided room temperature water unless there wasn't any other option, he loved drinking really cold water.

Neck & back massages - I always offered to take him to a real massage therapist but he wasn't thrilled about a stranger touching his body. Several times a week he would ask nicely for a massage and I did my best because I knew he was always in pain. He really appreciated impromptu back rubs,

Cream sodas & ICEE - while he didn't drink sodas often, cream soda was his favorite and everytime we went to the movies he would get a large mixed ICEE (cherry & raspberry).

Black hoodies - they were his signature fashion trademark, even on hot days you would see Josh wearing a hoodie, he was always running cold.

Many more things come to mind but these were the things that Josh loved or was known for. Josh was very set in his ways and doing/eating the same things brought him a lot of comfort. My biggest food accomplishment with him was getting him to try chilaquiles, which he ended up loving and requesting often but would never eat them at restaurants because they wouldn't cook them the way I did, extra crispy for him.

Meeting Josh

January 7, 2017

I met Josh in June 2009 never expecting that I was meeting the love of my life that night. Fernando, a fellow marine, introduced us thinking that we were going to be perfect for each other, possibly because both Josh and I were very loving people but also very stubborn individuals. After that night, we were inseparable. Coming from different worlds, it took a bit of work to understand how each other viewed the world but soon after we were able to read each other's minds. Fast forward to July 2013, Josh asked me to marry him and that is yet another night that I will never forget. He was so nervous that for 1 hour he didn't say a word and the moment he was able to speak, he kept stuttering and his hands were shaky. At that point, I had known him for four years and this man was so strong, brave, confident, fearless, and for the very first time I witnessed a side of him that I never knew existed. Later on he told me he was terrified of the possibility of me saying "no" but I assured him that never in a million years was I so sure of saying "yes" because I was going to marry the love of my life, the man who protected me, the man who taught me to be courageous, and the man who was always there for me at the end of the day. We got married in August 2014 and it was the most perfect and beautiful day that we spent together...
